Re: Embassy report: Iran Visa in Erzurum

My friend and I (both with German passports) got visas today in Erzurum. The consulate is at the previously mentioned address and is correct on Google Maps. We had visa grant notices and had specified Erzurum as the collection point. Arrived at 08:15 and were allowed into the consulate. We were seen...

Re: A Car Question

It's probably a slow head gasket leak, but check every part of the cooling system for any signs of leakage.

Pull the carpets up in the cabin to see if coolant is leaking from the hater matrix into the cabin.

Re: South Ossetia from North Ossetia

I drove across and back in 2010; at that time there was a Russian border control at Nizhny Zarmag on the Russian side. There was also a pretty informal border post on the RSO side. I had been in contact with a member of the MFA in Tskhinval beforehand and had permission to enter; the guy at the RSO ...

Re: Car storage in Armenia?

Hi Cristiano! That's good to hear. I always felt Kyrgystan was pretty informal regards entry requirements. Once I entered and they didn't even have a rubber stamp at the border... no problem But, if Armenia only allows you to stay for 90 or 180 days visa free, I doubt they will allow a vehicle to st...

Re: What vehicle allowed into Iran

I think this is a case of mis-communication somewhere down the line. Imagine if they really banned vehicles with engines greater than 2500 cc or valued above $40k. That would mean no lorries can enter. What kind of country would do that? There are strict import restrictions for permanently importing...

Re: Place to leave (Long Term) your car in Irkutsk, Vladivistok, Magadan

When you enter Russia, will you have a visa valid for the entire length of time you wish to keep it there? If not, you will face customs charges. I left my car in Magadan for 4 months in a secure, covered lockup here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Parking+%22Fast+and+Furious%22/@59.5749469,150...

Re: Car storage in Armenia?

I'm afraid Armenia is probably not going to be your solution. It may be part of the Eurasian Customs Union, but it had it's own customs policy for vehicles. After Turkmenistan, Armenia is the most expensive country to bring a car into in the Former USSR. It cost me about $130 to bring a Toyota Hilux...

Re: Car advice Central Asia

Well, I'm sure you can still make the trip, but there is just more of a risk of being stuck somewhere waiting for parts while you holiday time ticks. At the very least I would get the automatic transmission fluid changed to give the gearbox the best chance. In 1 and 2 on the transmission you'll find...

Re: Car advice Central Asia

Interesting. I read from biker's blogs that they need to hunt around for petrol, sold from plastic bottles and often smuggled in from Turkmenistan. There are very few petrol vehicles in Uzbekistan, almost everything is either LPG or diesel. But I guess petrol is not subject to the same supply issues...

Re: Buying Car in Kazakhstan - Driving it to Europe

Hi Steven

Am I right in thinking that my car has to be registered in my name (no POA) to enter Kazakhstan? Or is this just for KZ-registered vehicles?

Thanks ;)
