Kyrgyzstan, Ala-Archa - mountain conditions in August

Post by JanDziekonski »

I'm planning ascent to one of Ala-Archa peaks in mid-August (Komsomolec, Uchitiel etc.). What are the typical weather and ground conditions on top, ie. are crampons and ice-axes a must, or are the conditions good enough for trekking poles only?

Hello,

my wife and I are also interested for this topic. We have August 11-13 for trekking and then other plans in Bishkek the week after. We are looking for any advices or groups for a trekking in that time. Our wish is Peak Uchitel, but not fixed if not advised to climb in our equipment. We travel from Europe on a motorcycle and full gear is not an option. Just shoes, clothes, tent, sleeping bag and eventually hiking poles. No ice equipment or so.

Uchitel is considered a trekking peak and can be reached in August with trekking poles only. Not sure about Komsomolets but if it is about the same height, you should be fine.

Here is a video of someone doing it without any equipment in June: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6FjoJvG1SA
