Is mosquito repellent needed?

Postby tcarlyle » Wed Jun 17, 2015 8:08 pm

Are there by chance mosquitos in the mountains? Such a quantity that we need to take mosquito repellent? Or tweezers to remove ticks?

There are somemosquitoes, but ticks are a potentially bigger issue. They sell a spray called Off in pharmacies here, which repels ticks and mosquitoes alike. That might be useful.

Does anyone have information about the tick borne encephalitis in Kazakhstan? Is the repellent sufficient? Are the ticks on animal or can they live in nature or blankets etc?

They live in the trees. Getting the vaccination in advance is very very recommended. Also bring a pair of tweezers when you go hiking.

Which vaccination is that? What disease do ticks carry?

Vaccination for tick-borne encephalitis.

Look it up, it's something nasty.
