Which order to visit the 'standard' Uzbekistan route in

Hi all,

As part of a wider Central Asia trip we wish to travel from Tashkent to Samarkand to Bukhara to Khiva to Nukus/Muynaq and back to Tashkent. Our strong preference is for train travel, and we don't wish to take any flights.

We're wondering which of the following routes makes the most sense?

Tashkent - Khiva - Nukus/Muynaq - Khiva - Bukhara - Samarkand
Tashkent - Samarkand - Bukhara - Khiva - Nukus/Muqnaq - Khiva - Tashkent

It has the answer to your question, under rail network and tips on route planning.

Either Tashkent - Nukus - Khiva - Samarkand - Bukhara - Tashkent

or the other way around. This due to the fact that there is no train between Bukhara and Khiva.
