Don’t let the glorious Tripadvisor reviews fool you: Tabagan is a resort that has fallen into disrepair. It had its peak shortly after the opening in 2006, but has been steadily going downhill ever since. The hotel is dirty and in need of renovation, the food is crap and the service is terrible. The toilets stink like a family of skunks has moved in. On the slopes, things aren’t much better. The staff has a disastrous reputation. Try to avoid renting ski equipment here as the prices are high and the service is only-in-Kazakhstan-that-terrible.
As a ski resort, Tabagan is solely aimed at families and beginners. There is 1 easy slope in Tabagan and a sledding hill. If you are in Almaty and want to learn how to ski, I advise you to try Ak Bulak.
Tabagan also offers other entertainment like paintball, horse riding, paragliding, a swimming pool, etc. Are these any better? I personally do not feel inclined to test them out, but do let us know if you have.
