Re: Tajikistan - Uzbekistan crossing at Panjakent
I heard from my tour guide based in Panjakent that the border is closed from 5th to 16th September - other local tour operators have been told this morning. I'm therefore having to reroute my trip to Khujand instead, which is a pain. Speculation is that it's linked to the conference taking place in...

Re: Tajikistan visa-free entry registration
Hi. I will (re)enter Tajikistan tomorrow, visa-free, only to leave by plane the day after. I guess it's not necessary to register for this one-day stay, and even if I wanted I am not sure that I could (I will arrive to Dushanbe on Saturday evening), but does anyone have experience with such short st...

Re: Possible new GBAO closure (late August...)
Currently going back to Dushanbe from Khorog by car (by the way, was a bit of a struggle to find one with room for three bikers). We saw a quite large convoy of army trucks a few hours ago. Something 'important' going on?

Re: Scary descents on Pamir Highway
Thanks. In the end we're taking the M-41 straight to Murghab, but other people had told me the same you just did. Otherwise, my experience getting to Khorog was that nothing was 'scary' as the Khaburabod descent was. Although around some village called Lakhsh (between Qalai Khumb and Rushan) there i...

Bike repair in Khorog
I don't know if this is considered spam, but I just wanted to share the contact of a mechanic that a lot of people in Khorog seem to recommend: +992 93 577 4920 My experience with him was pretty good and apparently he'll soon open a bike rental/repair business here in Khorog, and then in different c...

Re: Kolsai & Kaindy Lakes + Charyn Canyon early Oct?
Thanks - will do! That link was just an example to let people know what I'm looking for. Were the steppe spirit tours you joined in Russian? My Russian is probably just about good enough to join a group - but I'd probably miss out on a few things. ;-) Sebastian The guide I was with could speak Engl...

Re: Scary descents on Pamir Highway
Thank you! I am not going past Murghab, or not by bicycle anyway, so that's good. Thanks again

Scary descents on Pamir Highway
Hello, Myself and a friend are currently cycling the Pamir Highway. Today we arrived to Qalai Khumb from the direction of Tavildara and I am still a bit in shock regarding the descent from the 3258 meters high mountain pass. I have no problem with strenuous effort, but this bit of the journey was wa...

Wakhan valley's safety at the moment (Tajik side)
Hello all, I will soon cycle the Pamir Highway with a friend and I was wondering if the Wakhan Valley route (always on the Tajik side) is considered safe. Just asking because I've heard different opinions since the Taliban took over. From 'it is very unsafe now, there could be crossfire, etc' to 'th...
