Re: [HH europe to asia] route, visas and climate

Hitchhiking is not free in most of the countries you mention. Most drivers in Central Asia will stop to offer a lift, if you indicate that you want one, but you will have to negotiate a fee. The same rule applies in Iran. Also, in many areas you cannot get to the border zone by hitching a ride. Thes...

Re: Tajikistan launches evisa with GBAO permit

Has anyone had any recent issues when applying for the e-visa? I have just now come across this mention on the web page of the TJ mission here in Geneva. There is no date on it, so I don't know what period the term 'the past few days' covers. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON E-VISA Currently the E-VISA (htt...

Re: Change in Iran travel situation for British passports

The link in d00gal's post from November 2015 no longer works, so I suspect the option described there is no longer available since the recent correction of visa processes.

Re: Nearest Iranian embassy for Canadians

I understood that freeze applied to all three nationalities, according to talk on other boards. But the problem has passed and the visas are flowing once more, although I think those agencies in Iran offering codes without tours have been brought back into line. - https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thornt...

Re: Iran has stopped issuing visas for US, UK and Canadian passports

Iran's MFA is issuing authorisation codes and visas for US, UK and CA passport holders once again. However, it seems likely that all those 'here's how to do it without a tour!' options have gone.

Iranian visa for US, UK and Canadian passports: Q&A

Apart from refusing to process visa applications from these nationalities, there are reports that Iran has cancelled visas already issued to those passports.

Re: Nearest Iranian embassy for Canadians

Under normal circumstances, you need an agency in Iran to apply for a code on your behalf. To get a code for a Canadian, US or UK passport you need to book or join a tour. You can collect your visa from any consulate in the world that you choose to nominate, and once you have the code it's just matt...

Re: Driving through Pakistan

I doubt that the Iranians will allow you to drive from Zahedan to the border without an escort. And I don't think that you can just turn up and expect to travel when it suits you, so allow some flexibility in that section of your trip. Do you have your visas for Pakistan?

Re: Budget planning

In Iran especially (and to a greater or lesser extent in other countries) there's also the issue of not properly understanding taarof, too, which can make some people appear more hospitable than they really intend to be. I think point is very well made, and deserves wider discussion here and elsewh...
