Re: Safety in Eastern Turkey right now - crossing to Iran
I'd say you'll be fine. Obviously I haven't had to check about buses, but I constantly see them drive past me.

Re: Safety in Eastern Turkey right now - crossing to Iran
A little update, I cycled a little further today and there was a much larger military presence. Agri itself seem fine, but I was cycling past endless amounts of helicopters and armoured vehicles. I also had a machine gun pointed at me buy a guy in no uniform.
Interesting day!

Re: Safety in Eastern Turkey right now - crossing to Iran
I'm here now, just crossed the border today. All was fine, but I was warned about the issues when I was in Iran. Police presence was non existent at the border itself, and for about 40 km towards Dogubayazit. Here there is a police presence, but nothing too big. All feels totally safe, but obviously...

Re: from urumqi/china to almaty/kazakhstan, information need
It's an incredibly easy border to cross. Most borders with China are closed at weekends, but as this is so busy, I'm not sure if it's the case. Re: Turkmenistan transit visa refusals
UK Citizen here, applied last week in Dushanbe and asked to pick the visa up at the border. I've received my verification email so I presume all is OK. Same story with a friend of mine who's travelling a couple of days ahead of me. We are hearing a lot of stories of refusal though.

Embassy report: Iran Visa - Dushanbe
Once the authorisation code was obtained, it wasn't too much of a drawn out process. Opening times - Mon-Fri 08:30-12:30 Guy behind the counter was fairly friendly, seemed to speak both Russian and some basic English. He give me a visa application form that is in English and Farsi, told me to go to ...

Re: Turkmenistan Transit visa- Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Dubai
Just to ask a question along similar lines, I know to get the Turkmenistan visa, you need the visa of the country already in your Passport of the country you're leaving to, but do you also need the visa of the country you're entering from? I'm going Uzbek - Turkmenistan - Iran, and I was going to ap...

Re: Sat Nav/Maps and Road Conditions
It should be noted that temperatures on weather sites/reports are taken in the shade. It's mostly much hotter than you see on the news.
