From the Kyrgyz border to Murghab we maybe saw 1 car per day, so don't count on being fast

I agree on what Mazeno recommends, but if you have the time, I suggest you take double the time because it's so freakin' beautiful there! I was under time pressure so couldn't stop/stay everywhere I wanted, but could easily spend a couple of weeks on the pamir highway

Be prepared to wait very, very long for a car or truck to even pass, because when we were there in September/October we saw maybe 5 cars on a whole day on the stretch from Sary Tash to Murghab. From Murghab to Khorog more Chinese trucks pass by but even they are sparse. Good luck

We took a shared taxi from Almaty to Bishkek. Pretty nice and comfortable Mercedes and a nice driver. Cost us less than $10 per person and about 4 hours. In my opinion the best way to get from Almaty to Bishkek. At the border of Kyrgyzstan just hop on to another taxi to bring you to Bishkek, about $...

Hasn't been a bazar for the past 8 weeks or so.
If you want to visit Afghanistan, go to Khorog and get your Afghan visa in a matter of minutes at he Afghan consulate and cross the border across the river into Afghanistan. Had an amazing day in Afghanistan two weeks ago!

Haha, sounds all too familiar. We crossed this border last week of September and is indeed what you described. Had to pay some money here, some money there, can't even remember how much it was. I was happy I could cross the border without too much delay so really didn't mind paying couple of dollars...

We got our Tajik visa including GBAO today in Almaty. We hold a Ducth passport, Applied yesterday and got double entrance. $90 p/p

Please note that October holiday in China starts on October 1 for a week. Borders might be closed but not sure.
