Redinski's 44 Misc Tips for Iran

Hi there, I cycled along the silk road from August–December 2015, spending almost three months in Iran. Here are some tips I collected during my ride. I hope some of them will be mildly useful for someone out there. It is such a beautiful and accomodating country. Enjoy. I know you will. If unsure w...

Can you put bicycles on buses in Kazakhstan?

Hi all, I need to fast-track from Tashkent to Bishkek via public transport, and was wondering if anyone knew whether the buses in Kazakhstan were big enough to take a large bicycle on board (i.e., do they have luggage compartments underneath, or racks on the roof?) I've read on the forum that there ...

Re: Possible to use Turkmen+Uzbek transit visas Iran>Kyrgyzs

Hi, Thank you both for your replies. Any additional input is very welcome. My reasons for breezing through Uzbekistan is I find the registration policy really off-putting. There's enough red tape to get into the country (onward travel, LOI) that I don't want to be chasing hotels while in the country...

Re: Travel insurance for Iran?

Congratulations on getting your code. I applied/collected my visa from the embassy in Canberra, Australia, where I was asked only for my passport and proof of travel insurance. I used a photocopy of my invoice (from 'Covermore' insurance company). I suspect it would be fairly easy to generate your o...

Re: Where are you going? Why?

Caravanistan Comrades, Thank you for assembling such a usable and informative site. It has helped me get my head around the black-hole of Central Asian visas. My vague plan is to spend up to ten weeks cycling through Iran (Tabriz to Bandar Abbas; maybe along the Caspian) and then, weather- and visa-...

Possible to use Turkmen+Uzbek transit visas Iran>Kyrgyzstan?

Hi there, I am currently cycling through Iran on a tourist visa/Australian passport. Does anyone know if you can get both Turkmen + Uzbek transit visas to get to Kyrgyzstan (where I am eligible for a visa on arrival). I am mindful you need proof of onward travel for an Uzbek transit visa, but since ...

Re: Iran rial exchange rates

Was told by a well-informed local that with the sanctions lifting, the street rate is decreasing steadily to the official rate, so consider changing money sooner than later.

As of today the street rate is 1USD = 3330 toman. 1AUD = 2300 toman.

(1 toman = 10 rial)
