You can take your car without a problem. The customs at the border will charge you according to the engine capacity. The period of time will be relative to your visa duration. Just the same as other borders. It is not very expensive, especially if it is not a big engine.

Yes. You will get an extension of a maximum of 30 days from the immigration office near the airport. This will cost you $2 per day. You must write a letter stating your reason for the extension. They will accept almost any reason.

Hello Steven. We will try to do this ourselves, unless we accidently find a tour operator who has someone at the border who will assist. My experience in the past at other borders is that the assistant is likely to claim it is all fixed but later you find that it is not right and you lose your money...

I think I would rather haggle with the border people than pay the equivalent of $1,000 Aus. They must have a temporary import permit for other goods, why not vehicles? Surely all the surrounding countries don't have to have Carnets.
