Russia, Saratov to Kazakhstan, Uralsk

The border crossing itself was no problem. The road between these two cities is the worst I've seen though! I never registered my migration card during my four-day transit visa journey through Russia, this was no problem on exit; it wasn't mentioned. Keep your customs declaration form that you fille...

Estonia to Russia on highway E77

Nothing much to report here, easy enough. One surprise: despite crossing on a motorbike I didn't show my IDP, though I did expect to need to.

I'll do the same, also entering N/A for Place of Work & Position and for Work Address, because I'll enter Temporarily Not Working for my job, unless anyone advises otherwise?

UK Dover to France ferry tip

Perhaps not strictly Silk Road, but the start of the journey for some of us. Lots of delays and queues this summer, and, not knowing when I'd be ready to cross, I arrived without a booking. The ferry operator couldn't offer me anything for four hours, but this currency shop that also sells tickets g...

Re: Taskala (Russia - Kazakhstan) crossing: open Saturdays?

Or, in general, do borders tend to be open on Saturdays, Sundays?

Taskala (Russia - Kazakhstan) crossing: open Saturdays?

Hi all, do you think the Taskala crossing on the main road from Uralsk to Saratov will be open on Saturday the 6th of August? As that's the last day of my Russian transit visa, and it just occurred to me that some crossings might close on weekends! I'll be on my motorbike, going from Russia into Kaz...

Re: Shipping a motorbike overland Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan

That's one of my biggest doubts about this plan, yes! But then I thought; it's very normal to have equipment you can break the law with, and the trust that you won't (or won't dare to!) comes normal with it... I'll certainly want to have a backup plan ready! What would my situation likely be if I go...

Shipping a motorbike overland Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan

Hi all,

I've posted about shipping a motorbike overland from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan in the China forum, because it has a lot to do with China! But it also has a lot to do with motorbike overlanding, so here's the link:

Shipping a motorbike overland Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan

Hi all, I'm have two concerns about crossing Xinjiang self-drive on my foreign motorbike: 1) That it will be out of my bugdet, even when sharing the costs by joining a group. 2) That I won't know far enough in advance when I'll be ready to cross - the guideline seems to be that all dates & docum...
