Got the following report via e-mail: 44-day visa - I entered on September 15 and exited on October 29. September has 30 days, so you can count normally with taking into consideration a 31st day. They consider September 15th to October 29th to be 45 days. So, they would consider the 10th to the 20th ...

Here is another one:

April 2018: 8 working days. Digital photo needed which cost an expensive 80¥. There is only 1 place where it s possible to get it done. A travel itinerary and hotel registration as well.

Transferring some older reports from the visa page: May 2017: It's now pretty easy to get afghan visas from Washington DC - they do not require a letter of invitation at the moment. April 2012: "the Afghan consulate is currently not authorized by the Karzai adminstration to offer tourist visits...

Transferring some older info from another page - got this via e-mail:

September 2018: quite easy, short conversation with the consul, show itinerary, hotel confirmation and letter of invitation and two weeks later we could pick up the visa (70 euro).

Yes, it's remote. Foreigners aren't even allowed without a permit on the Uzbek side, if I am not mistaken.
