From Qinghai to Xinjiang: route notes for cyclists and backpackers

This is a short overview of the (infrastructure) changes that have come about on the little used (by foreign travellers) border crossing between Qinghai and Xinjiang . Big thanks to P. As this route was followed during Covid times you'll get the extra bonus of the precautionary measures that were pu...

Hi Tim, Caravanistan is more than just the forum, there is also a travel guide. On every page of the travel guide at the bottom is a banner with a link to our coronavirus update page. That's where you find a lot of info, like the 32 nationalities. https://caravanistan.com/coronavirus With regards to...

Re: First time in Uzbekistan

Hi Rammsfer - Is it true that at your arrival you need to take another test? If true, do you need to quarantine until the results are available? - I've been trying to contact somebody through an official website, such as https://uzbekistan.travel/en, and nobody has replied to me. Does Uzbekistan Gov...

Re: Kyrgyzstan & Almaty in 11 days?

Altyn Arashan is a couple of hours hike. The whole itinerary is doable in the time you have stated, but it will be driving from morning til evening most days. Kel Suu to Issyk Kul will be the longest day but it is doable in one day. No need to stop at Naryn, I don't recommend it, it's not a particul...

Re: Posof (TR) - Vale (GEO): border crossing reports

Got this via e-mail: We are traveling by bike and were today refused border crossing (crossing from Turkey to Georgia). The Georgian police didn't let us pass because this crossing is only open for trucks (so no car, bike, pedestrian can pass). We tried and argued for 1h, it was impossible, we had t...

Do you know if Swiss citizens can enter the country with a regular PCR test in English from any laboratory or institute?
Yes, that will be fine. Uzbeks want you to come. I haven't read anything about people not allowed in because their pcr test results were not valid.

Re: Kazakh/Uzbek Border Open? Kaplanbek

I am just reporting things I hear or read from elsewhere. I haven't read the Kazakh border being open, but that doesn't mean it isn't so. You can try calling the Kazakh border police. I only have the number of the Karkara Valley border post, but maybe they can already tell you more or refer you onwa...
