Re: Tajikistan launches evisa with GBAO permit

I obtained this today after many teething issues. Total cost was $71.75 ($50 visa, $20 GBAO permit and $1.75 bank fee) The process is straightforward, fill out a form with information such as name, nationality, where you plan to stay, passport no., DOB, date of arrival etc and then you go to a page ...

Day trips from Almaty

I'll be In the former capital from 5th to 8th July before flying to Dushanbe to start my Pamir highway trip. I'm looking to do a day trip to hopefully see some of the surrounding area on one of the days, start early and return late afternoon before dark. Does anyone have any good suggestions as to w...

Re: ATM rates v black market? KAZ/TAJ/KYR

FWIW, I've recently been in e-mail correspondence with the owner of the Green House hostel in Dushanbe and he said that there isn't really a black market anymore in Tajikistan, the rate is now at its it's true value.

Re: Visa on Arrival for British

I've just became aware of an additional problem. I assume that it's not possible to get the GBAO permit on arrival at the same time as getting the visa? If it's not possible I'll have to get a visa in advance together with GBAO permit as I'm arriving in Dushanbe on a Friday which would mean that eve...

Re: Currency Devaluation

There has been no replies in nine months, that's an age in somewhere that changes as fast as it does in parts of Asia. Now the official rate is $1-7.86 Somoni . Is there a black market rate in addition or is this the true rate? Also, are businesses and services connected to tourism charging in dolla...

Re: Visa on Arrival for British

I read on wiki travel that VOA is only for citizens of countries without a Tajik embassy. Uk has a Tajik embassy (of little help to me as I'm thousands of miles away!). I'll call the Beijing consulate tomorrow and see if I can apply by post. Anybody have recent experience on the ground regarding the...

Visa on Arrival for British

I'm from UK (although I live in Southern China) and am going on a 24 day trip from Dushanbe to Almaty in July. I have read conflicting information online regarding the abilty to get a visa on arrival at Dushanbe airport. I have read that it is available for all EU nationals, but I have also read tha...

Currency Devaluation

I'm a new poster here, I'm doing a 24 day trip from Dushanbe to Almaty in July. I have read online that the Tajik Somoni has massively devalued in the last couple of years. This is usually very good news for travellers, are most of the prices there quoted in dollars or in local currency? I have prev...
