Re: Tajikistan launches evisa with GBAO permit

We arrived in Dushanbe yesterday without an evisa. VOA is still in full effect, very easy and cost $35. At the airport, there were no signs about evisas or anyone asking about evisas that we could see. I'm sure that will change as the evisa system gets up and running, but for now it seems that you c...

Short, easy horse trek for inexperienced riders?

Hello Caravanistanians, We are two Americans flying to Dushanbe on Saturday. We are not especially outdoorsy but we are interested in doing a short horse trek in Tajikistan while visiting this country. Can anyone recommend a company that can do a short trek (max 5 days) for inexperienced riders, and...

Re: Tajikistan launches evisa with GBAO permit

We read this this morning, and we're a little worried because we already have a flight for Saturday planning on getting a VOA. Re: DO NOT use Karakol as a base to see Issyk-Kul lake

Thanks for your reply...it wasn't BAD experience, in fact, we loved Karakol, but we did want to spend at least a day relaxing at the lake and that just doesn't seem possible from Karakol. And yes, much of our plans have not worked out so far but that is ok!

DO NOT use Karakol as a base to see Issyk-Kul lake

On the suggestion of several internet sites including this one, we went to Karakol to see the wooden church (the picture of the cathedral on this site is mislabeled as the mosque) and to explore the lake. Karakol is a great town for the mosque and the church, and as a base to hike, and do horseback ...

Re: Kegen - KarKara border crossing

We crossed the border yesterday from Karakol to Almaty. I'll share my experiences, as some of the info on Caravanistan didn't quite match our experience. From Karakol, there are no marshrutkas to Karakara that we could find. You have to hire a driver. A marshrutka dropped us by a "market" where appa...
