Re: Chinese Tourist visa: Agent pros and cons
I've only experience from before Covid, as we had applied in autumn 2019 for a Chinese Visa in Berne. I had no problem with our flights booked and some prebooked hotels, to get the visa then. Stay was in december/january. Only downside was, that the visa were more expensive, as the visa center is de...

Re: Bartang Valley Route
I think it is not a matter of allowance, but if a vehicle gets through. We did it in 2010 on a pushbike and it was far worse, you had to carry the bike in some places and one river was crossed on a bulldozer. At that time no chance for a motorbike, but if the photo shows all, you probably can evalua...

Re: How early for low altitude hiking and riding?
Hi, indeed, perhaps it would be better to take the region north of Issyk-Kul, as the mountains face southwards (but I'm not aware of obvious treks or routes), while in Karakol you have deep valleys and an overall exposition northwards, so snow should stay longer there. Perhaps another option could b...

Re: Bishkek to Osh flight
For our holidays this summer in Kyrgyzstan we were able to buy the tickets via the airline tezjet on their website http://tezjet.kg/ , which seems to be the major carrier. I bought Bishkek Osh and Osh Bishkek 2 respectively 5 weeks in advance and paid 5700 som for 2 people one flight, which sounds r...

Re: Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan Crossings (Batken area)
Our permit was issued on 27th of june in Bishkek, we went via Tien Shan Travel. They informed us, that in case of new tensions the military could deny access even with permit. I think there are two ways getting a border permit, either via Bishkek, where you can get a general permit for all border re...

Re: How early for low altitude hiking and riding?
Interesting, we heard different things for Southern Kyrgyzstan. In the Turkestan-Range the herders were complaining of few snow and a hot june, a bit like in the Alps this year. So every year will be different. But it is right, that to be on the safe side july is better. Here in the Turkestan Range ...

Re: Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan Crossings (Batken area)
The borders between TJ and KG are closed but no problem to go to Batken area. We were crossing the Turkestan range the last three weeks between Uzgurush and Aidarken and also in Karavshin. You just ought to have a border permit for some areas, but we needed our permit only once. When hiking near Taj...

Re: Flying with Bicycle as baggage on Air Arabia
Hi, we flew in january 2018 with Air Arabia Maroc from Agadir to Munich. We just added 30 kg of baggage and that was all for the bicycle. No problems with the 160 cm (length, width, height). We were over it, but unless you have a folding bike you never will be within the 160 cm sum, ok besides S&S co...

Re: Russia - Baikal lake to vladivostock on motorbike
As for the western part, there is also a road a bit nearer to Baikal, than Ust Kut, i did it in 2012 on a bicycle, but for the (boring) stetch in the woods between Shigalowo and the BAM, I had a lift. But no problem on a motorbike. As for the rest, (110) there are two river crossings of the Barguzin...

Re: so, you say that you had problems with "registrovka"?...
The question for me is, how long those registration procedures will endure after COVID. I can imagine, that some countries will be slower in leaving them. E.g.I thought the US have a registration process since several years (haven't been there since over 20 years). What is more frustrating is the pa...
