Re: Tajikistan E-visa Q&A

I never got a reply from the MFA or tourism board. If you plan on the e-visa, start the process a month early, check for recent reports and cross your fingers. Safest solution is to just fly in. I have visited Tajikistan a number of times and love the country but man, it is tragic that they can't ge...

Another quick update. I got this a full day after emailing them.

Re: Tajikistan E-visa Q&A

I’ve been waiting on my Evisa since October 9. Sitting in Samarkand, hoping it will come through. I heard a rumor through a friend in Dushanbe that the system may have been hacked. I have a friend with a US passport who applied on Oct 2 and received his on Oct 10. I can tell from email read receipts...

Re: Uzbek sum exchange rates

September 9, 2016

6300 som - 1 USD in Tashkent at Chilanzor dehqon bozori. There was some talk of the rate potentially dropping a bit for an upcoming Islamic holiday - couldn't understand when it was exactly.

Re: Post-Karimov Uzbekistan entry/exit reports

I'll answer my own question. Just flew into Tashkent with LOI - got my visa on arrival for a whopping 160USD (US passport). Airport was disorganized and slow to issue visa (the man in charge was away for 20 minutes) but everything worked out fine. Overall climate seems fine and the exchange rate see...

Re: Unrest in Central Asia - fall 2016 edition

Seems like business as usual - just arrived in Tashkent today. Walked around and changed money. Even the currency exchange rate is pretty stable. No major changes compared with my previous visits.

Post-Karimov Uzbekistan entry/exit reports

I'm planning to fly into Uzbekistan on September 9th. I've been a little concerned about some twitter reports that there was restricted movement around borders just before the announcement of Karimov's death. Would love to hear any tourist reports of entering or exiting safely and as usual. I unders...

Re: Tajik E Visa Registration

Totally a scam. I've encountered this kind of shake-down before many times in Tajikistan. My last encounter - Tajik KGB in Khovaling declared that I needed to register with OVIR at every single nohia/district I arrived in or face a fine. To some extent, this could be just misinformation - as in many...

Re: Double Entry Visa On Arrival in Dushanbe Rejected

You would have to apply for it and print it in Ishkoshim, Afghanistan before coming back. That said, I don't know if the e-visa system or admins are sophisticated enough to note whether or not you're in country when you're applying for your next one.

Re: Tajikistan launches evisa with GBAO permit

Thanks for the reply, CrazyDre. I guess the evisa makes a big difference for crossing at land borders, if it works. It's not like it ever took much time to get a VOA at airports so I'm not sure why one would prefer the evisa route if both are options. Unless my info is outdated, it also seems like 3...
