Re: Embassy report: Turkmen transit visa in London
Hi, I also applied in London. We used a letter that was posted on this forum. He told us it looked too touristy and adviced us to change it if we wanted to maximize our chances. He said he had no part in this and thus made it look like he wanted to help us get through the administration, which we th...

Re: Driving around north side Caspian Sea
Thanks! How bad do I have to imagine the police harassment? Not really interested in being forced hundreds of dollars in bribes of me.

Driving around north side Caspian Sea
Hi, I'm planning to drive from Europe to the Pamir highway and back this spring/summer. Considering the uncertainty of getting a Turkmeni visa, we were thinking of driving around the Caspian Sea from Iran to Uzbekistan. Tehran to Nukus (Uzb) through Azerbaijan/Georgia/Russia/Kazackstan is around 320...

Embassy report: Uzbekistan visa in Brussels
Got a 30 day visa for Uzbekistan from the Brussels embassy (as a belgian, without LOI), everything went quite smoothly. Filled in the online form and then called the embassy as nothing was clearly explained online. The guy wasn't very talkative and only spoke French, but I gave the code of my applic...

Re: Car advice Central Asia
Thanks for the extensive answer, didn't expect this anymore! Unfortunately it's too late for this time, as I already bought the car, but very useful to know during our trip. Not a good choice, make sure it is in excellent condition when leaving. There are plenty of used cars in Central Asia, but mos...

Re: Transit visa in Azerbaijan
Couldn't find an answer to a specific question on Azeri transit visa, maybe the answer is straightforward, but want to be sure: We are planning to drive (with our own car) from Azerbaijan to Iran to Turkmenistan (and on to Uzbekistan), this of course means that there is a chance we get stuck in Iran...

Re: Car advice Central Asia
Bought a 17 yo Ford Mondeo with automatic transmission in the end, not the perfect adventure car I guesss, but should be better than a worn out Citroen C3 of a family member I had in mind first.

Re: Car advice Central Asia
Considering the limited time and the not so big Belgian 2nd hand market, turns out I can't specifically aim at one model or brand. Some of the cars I'm considering (right price range, decent brand, enough horse power to get us up a mountain) are automatic transmission, have driven these before, but ...

Car advice Central Asia
Hi all, I'm driving from Europe to Central Asia and back in May/June/July. Plan is to go through Turkey/Iran/Uzbekistan/Tajikistan/Kyrgysztan and from there back through Kazakhstan and Russia. I still have to buy a second-hand car for this, which means I can try to choose brand/model/etc smartly. Fr...
