Re: Itinerary in Kazakhstan

Great to hear it nonetheless! Indeed when I went to Aralsk I had to have a guide to go almost off-road (it was a goath path more than a road) to see the Sea near Aqespe.

Re: London to Kuala Lumpur (Advice Needed!)

Just put some buffers here and there, and use them to relax and take in the experience. Had I had your opportunity (jealous!) I'd definitely pepper a few extra days in specific places. And enjoy!

Re: Traveling between Russia, Kazakistan, Uzbekistan and Gyrgyzistan

Karkara valley, as Mazeno pointed out, is a building site on the Kazakh side from the border to, basically, Kegen, with a very rough surface. From the Kyrgyz side the road is worn out but in a decent state until the last 15/30kms (effectively the last valley that then leads into the plateau) where i...

Re: How to avoid being extorted on trains?

Thanks for your insights. What do you mean by "no windows down" policy? So is it okay to refuse to show your passport to random police officers and guards when at a metro station or strolling in the city? I don't speak any Russian, by the way. I plan to leave my passport in the hotel and ...

Re: London to Kuala Lumpur (Advice Needed!)

Mate, I think you've really over-planned it. What if you like Bukhara a lot and don't do the side trip to Gijduvon? Or what if you hit roadworks on a road and it takes you longer-than-expected to go somewhere? I, too, am partial to planning and to getting to see something I'm interested in, but a bi...

Re: How to avoid being extorted on trains?

I've found Central Asian long distance trains very civilised. Sure, I haven't been in the Russian cars of the long-distance trains and, sure again, I'm a bearded 6-foot-man, but my hairiest experience on rails was on an East Midlands train where I was sat with a bunch of Derby County returning from ...

Re: Transit via VKO Moscow on separate tickets

I think you do need a Russian transit visa. I've got a TXL-DME-OSS flight on S7 Airlines, all on the same ticket; however, since Kyrgyzstan is in the same customs union as Russia, I decided to go for a transit visa. What makes me think you need one is: 1) Neither the consulate nor the airline could ...

Re: Need some recommended trekking routes in Pamir Highway

Hey there! I've done some pre-planning for something like that too, but in the end I decided not to return to Murghab and to just trek on the Alay mountains with Visit Alay (as recommended by Steven too). Anyhow, what I gathered from looking around on the Net is that there's fairly little, in terms ...

Re: Khorogh Airport and Tajik Air bankruptcy

I think they also needed a quasi-VTOL airplane for that route. Tajik Air had an An28 if I remember well.

It's spreading! Now even Kyrgyzstan is considering a renaming: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-news-f ... e-47700161
