Re: Covid Travel Insurance for Kyrgyzstan?

A lot depends on where you are from. In the UK, Battleface is effectively the only provider but even them are putting a 59-year age limit to their C-19 coverage.

Re: Road condition in central asia

It seems that, as part of its Belt & Road initiative, China might be ready to improve the Pamir Highway (at least up to the Qolma Pass). Chinese contractors will do all the work, as seems to be the norm there, and Tajikistan will inherit some nice debt. However needed the upgrade is, I can't but fee...

Re: 300 Afghan army soldiers cross near Pamir Highway

Just a question of time before the Taliban follow them to go fishing for some hostages methinks. I wouldn't want to be cycling there these days.

Re: Uzbek-tajik-afghan land borders open?

I don't know if you follow the news, but this just happened in Kunduz province, Afghanistan, right on the border with Tajikistan. Taliban captures Afghanistan’s main Tajikistan border crossing Some security forces abandon their posts and flee across the frontier as the Taliban seizes Shir Khan Banda...

Re: Wakhan corridor: security and access Q&A

Resurrecting this thread to share this article from Al Jazeera: it seems that the Taliban have managed to overrun a city in Kunduz province and are now in control of border posts with Tajikistan. I think it's also near the location of the Russian base. T aliban captures Afghanistan’s main Tajikistan...

Re: Dirty (corrupt) police

Tajikistan has changed a lot. Police have been ordered (from the very, very top) to be nice to tourists. From what I heard and what I can see, 2018/2019 was when the big change came in. Oh wow! I was there last in '17 and we had to bribe every roadblock on the Highway. Now I'm even more keen to get...

Re: Dirty (corrupt) police

In my experience the Kyrgyz police/army are a lot less likely to be bent than the Tajiks. Border guards even speak reasonable English and are very friendly, however I've heard a fair few attempts at shaking people down. A trick I've learnt from another traveller and employed in Dushanbe's bazaar (bu...

Another set of border clashes between TJ & KG

... only this time is a lot heavier. 30+ dead in Kyrgyzstan, 10 or so in Tajikistan according to some local media (Rahmon is keeping a lid on it).

Re: World Nomad Games 2021

So... the Erdogan hijacking of the Games hasn't happened?! That's great news! But I'm a bit sad that they're not holding them over in Cholpon-Ata (of course, Covid allowing).

I might plan a quick dash... mmmmh.

Re: Where to find free, legal bivouac & camp sites in Europe?

Yes, camper vans (and caravans) infested every corner (almost) of the country. We also found a nice camping spot near Loch Assynt but it was overrun with midges and they HURT! Here's a nice article from the Guardian, it features Sandwood beach. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2017/may/08/10-best-...
