Re: Trip end of october/beginning of november

A little more than 2 weeks seems *very* short for this! Distances are great - Kazakhstan is the 9th largest country on earth. Or are you planning to fly as much as possible? I’d stick to Uzbekistan if you can’t stay longer than that. Also - you didn’t list Tashkent. It’s an interesting city!

Re: Cheap flights to Central Asia

In my experience, Bishkek is often the cheapest airport to fly to. You might also want to consider an open-jaw flight involving Bishkek - e.g. Europe -> Bishkek, Tashkent -> Europe. There are also some cheap flights on Wizz Air via Dubai/Abu Dhabi that *can* work out well - but for me personally, th...

Re: Buying train tickets in Uzbekistan

Yes, a lot of tickets seem to be blocked for travel agencies etc. But it seems that unsold/returned tickets do get released from time to time, so it is worth checking back regularly. However, if there are no tickets whatsoever 45 days in advance, I think it is much more likely that they simply haven...

Re: Are eSIM available in Uzbekistan ?

Airalo is great for the first few hours/days when you enter the country but haven't had the chance to buy a local SIM-card, but price-wise it is usually much better to have a local card (particularly if you need lots of data or are staying longer than a few days). I had a quick look at Beeline and f...

Yes, money exchange offices in Tbilisi will sell you rubles for lari. I haven't tried myself, but their rate displays show both selling and buying rates.
Can't help with bus tickets, I'm afraid...

Re: Change passport number after buying UZ train and UZ fly tickets

I strongly suspect that this is not going to be a problem with trains. In my experience, they check whether the name on the ticket is the same as on the passport you're presenting to them, and they might check wether the passport picture matches the person standing in front of them - but I can't rem...

Re: From Uzbekistan to Georgia: seeking inspiration

Turkmenistan may not be as prohibitively expensive as you think - see some of the threads here: https://caravanistan.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=31, particularly https://caravanistan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13808. Yes, the impact on travels to the US is a bit of a bummer - but since I don't nee...

Re: Buying train tickets in Uzbekistan

BTW, what I wrote about in my previous post does seem to be true: Currently, tickets are available for the days up to 23rd August, but there's nothing for 24th August. Those tickets will become available tomorrow, I guess. Buying a ticket to Navoi is only marginally more expensive, so if you want a ...

Re: Buying train tickets in Uzbekistan

OK - I had a hunch, and I think this has now been confirmed: Yesterday, there were no tickets from Khiva to Bukhara for 20 August, but at the time of writing this, there are 40 tickets in platzkart and 9 in kupe. So it seems that (extra?) tickets are released 6(?) days before the date of travel. Whe...

Re: Russia E-visa approved border points

Well, it's all in the list copied in the original post, plus a Google search for the names of border crossings between the relevant countries (you'll find something on Wikipedia, for example) - and a bit of tedious comparison work... To answer your question - Kazakhstan: no (I didn't check, but this...
