Re: Travel between Jordan and Israel
Last year I (a Brit) cycled Egypt -> Jordan -> Israel. I then took a coach tour back into Jordan, and then back again into Israel. All crossings were at Allenby Bridge. No problems whatsoever on any of the crossings. I did meet an American family in Sinai who I think had had problems getting their c...

Re: Georgia to Russia
If you can't get into Russia, other eastward options could include: Land to Azerbaijan, ferry from Baku to Turkmenistan - yeah, good luck getting into Turkmenistan, especially if you're British. Land to Azerbaijan, ferry to Kazakhstan - except that's also closed at the moment if you haven't watched ...

Re: Getting cardboard box in Osh for flying
You could try asking at the TES Guesthouse, as that's where most of the cyclists stay when in Osh.

Re: Travel Russia-Abkhazia-Georgia
Thread resurrection! If I travel Georgia - Abkhazia - Russia next year, to what extent are any problems entering Georgia going to persist? My passport is very nearly out of pages so the missing physical exit stamp won't be a problem, and Georgia is visa-free for me (I'm British) so should I try to v...

Re: From India to Belgium without planes
Yes, different Chinese embassies have different practices and policies regarding how easy it is to get a visa. For instance, the Thai embassy is meant to be quite easy - coming from several people I know who've got visas there, and also from lots of stuff written on this forum. The Hong Kong embassy...

One trip from Tashkent to Osh and then back in from Shymkent, the other trip from Panjakent to Beyneu, so basically most of the parts of the country that people are likely to visit.
I also know other cyclists who have ridden through in lycra so I'm not the only one.

Re: Embassy report: Chinese visa in Hong Kong
I (British) got a 60 day tourist visa in Hong Kong in November 2018. I had an LoI from friends within China, and at the start I'd booked a flight out and planned an itinerary but hadn't booked most of the itinerary yet. The clerk at the visa office insisted they only gave 30 day visas in HK and was ...

They're better than India but worse than Europe/America. Riding in the city is a bit of an experience at first but you soon get used to the local norms and expectations. Rigid in the country is no problem as everywhere is so sparsely populated. Precautions: be aware of your surroundings and keep you...

This hunting shop had pierce-type cartridges in April 2019. No screw cartridges though.

Re: Men wearing shorts in Uzbekistan
I've now made two trips to Uzbekistan, both times cycling, and wore Lycra bike shorts in the day / 3/4 cargos in the evenings. No problem at all. I didn't hear any sniggeres, nobody looked offended and I never got service refused or anything like that.
