Re: Train in Turkmenistan Q&A

Apparently you need a Turkmen cell phone number to book a train online – there is a mandatory field for phone number with a fixed country code "+993". Furthermore, it only offers Platzkart and Kupe, whereas on the counter we could buy tickets for Deluxe (2 beds per compartment). Also, the ...

Re: Cheap accommodation for Turkmenistan: Q&A

Hotel "Shabat" in Dashoguz : 70 TMT per person in a regular room, or 120 TMT in a Deluxe room. It's basically a run-down ex-Soviet hotel, but good value for the price (hot shower, at least in one of the rooms we had; no A/C or wifi). Restaurant "Oguz" across the street has free ...

Re: Q&A: Door to Hell

Here's how we visited Derveze: We crossed the border at Konye Urgench (from Uzbekistan), then went to Dashoguz. In Dashoguz, we first bought train tickets for the night train from Dashoguz to Ashgabat. There's two trains per night. Tickets were 101 TMT per person in first class (2 beds per compartme...

Re: Turkmen manat black market exchange rates

I asked in the Bazar in Nukus (Uzbekistan) to buy TMT, they offered 1€ = 5 TMT.

In Turkmenistan, we were offered 1$ = 17,4 TMT in Konye Urgench, and 1$ = 17,5 TMT in Dashoguz.

Re: Uzebekistan long-term car/motorbike parking

Just a hint to another thread : On Uzbek side we had an interesting situation: we didn't give the car documents to the border post, and he didn't ask for them. It took him very long, he had a phone call and discussions with his colleagues, but he didn't talk to us about it. In the end, they let us g...

Re: Car storage in Armenia?

Hi Viking,

did you buy an insurance for 12 months, or how did you handle insurance for parking your vehicle for 12 months?

Thanks,

Robert.

Leaving vehicle in Iran on carnet

Hi, does someone here have experience with leaving a car in Iran, and then leaving the country (by plane)? We're planning to do this. We'll have a Carnet de Passage, valid for one year, and would return within this period, get the car and move on. Will this be possible, or are we likely to run into ...

Re: Long-term vehicle storage in Kyrgyzstan: Parking space reports

We parked our car in Kirgistan twice: once with Ryan from Iron Horse Nomads in Bishkek. And once with Oibek in Osh (+996 551 006 115). Both speak very good English and it was easy dealing with them.
