Re: Tashkent to Samarkand afrosiyob

It appears that currently Afrosiyob tickets are put online for sale only 14 days in advance. No idea why. Your alternatives are booking a slower, cheaper train (which are still perfectly comfortable IMO) or waiting.

Re: Passing to Abkhazia from Enguri Border

That's interesting (especially considering that they refused my request to stamp my passport last year even though they had a stamp, saying it was for locals only)! Could you post a photo of the stamp?

Re: On-Arrival visa for Abkhazia, entering via Georgia

I have never heard of someone being let in at Ingur without the authorization letter of Abkhaz MFA (you get the actual visa only in Sukhum anyway).

Re: New Railway Baku-Tiblisi-Kars (Turkey)

The train will begin running in August on the route Baku - Tbilisi - Kars - Ankara, once weekly . Not through to Istanbul as some people hoped though. Journey time Baku - Ankara is supposedly only "slightly over 40" hours, which sounds very fast to me since the current Ankara-Kars train ta...

Re: Car by train from Moscow to Central Asia?

There are no car-carrying passenger trains like in some European countries. If you want to put a lot of money and effort in it, it might be possible to send the car as freight on a cargo train. I wouldn't really advise it though.

Re: Georgina trains - Gori to Batumi?

Hi, the Stadler fast trains run non-stop from Tbilisi to Samtredia (which is where the lines from Tbilisi to Batumi/Poti/Zugdidi split). They do not stop in Gori. The only trains stopping in Gori are the trains from Tbilisi to Zugdidi and Poti. To get to Batumi, the only suitable way is by marshrutk...

Re: How to avoid being extorted on trains?

Hi, first of all: I never had such a problem in >30 rides on FSU night trains. If you experience something such as the traveller in the first link, to get the train manager (nachalnik poezda), who is on the train the boss of the sleeping car attendants (provodniki). Also, most importantly, ask for t...

Re: Passing to Abkhazia from Enguri Border

You enter Russia only once, so you won't need a double-entry visa. Have a good explanation why you have a Russian visa ready in case the Georgian police has questions, your explanation should obviously not include crossing the border at Psou/Adler.
