Re: Drones in Central Asia - rules Q&A

The Uzbeks. Though I’ve since heard they’ve relaxed the rule. I suspect it was just the grumpy boss on the day - the other officers would’ve eventually given in.

Re: Kuryk to Aktau transport

Apologies if I missed it on another thread but does anyone have info on the west bound Kuryk to Baku ferry? There is plenty about the East bound.

I’ve my own transport so I’m no particularly fussed by a 70km drive but it’d seem silly to head to Aqtau if it’s not needed.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Drones in Central Asia - rules Q&A

Yes. In short at the Turkmen-Uzbek crossing at Farap they forced us to destroy our drone (they'd not even let the drone into the country once destroyed to help with insurance). We tried for several hours to come up with a solution - posting, sealing in a box and police courier to the border, travell...

Re: British, American and Canadian how to get into Iran (without a tour guide)

I'd strongly suggest getting in touch with the Tehran based company ToIran. I'm not sure where to post a report on them on this forum but they are truly excellent. Without selling them short (you'll have to read between the lines), as two Brits travelling through recently I couldn't have asked for a...

Re: Turkmen visa Q&A

Roughly 15 people in the last three weeks that I have met have had their Transit Visa approved from all major entries/exits both with their own transport and with none. This may be a lucky quota but it is looking good.

Re: Embassy report: Turkmenistan visa in Istanbul

Next update: Yes, this works, but Istanbul is slow and busy. It took 17 days for the Visa to be approved for us to pick up in Mashad. Others that applied in Tehran seemed to wait on average 10 days. If, like us, the approval date is later than your intended exit date then they will grant the visa fo...

I'm yet to make it there (we'll be there in a few days). But I'm told by several other travellers that have been through recently that the market stopped 3 years ago!

Re: Embassy report: Turkmenistan visa in Istanbul

Update: It looks as though you can [again?!] apply for a transit visa for Turkmenistan in their consulate in Istanbul if you are NOT Turkish. At least I think that’s what I’ve just done... they insisted that a LOI was needed for a Transit visa. $10 each and a walk to Dezin bank (10 mins away) we wer...

Re: Entering Iran with own car

As an option, the Swiss providers (TCS) of the CDP are extremely quick, helpful, and moreover much cheaper (less the percentage deposit which is common to all) than carseurope. Carseurope were also extremely understanding that I wanted to take my business elsewhere. The German company will not take ...

Re: Embassy report: Iranian visa in Istanbul

As a UK citizen it is currently costing €200 for a normal priority visa and a whopping €300 for a same day one. The man at th counter, though friendly, went to “check his system”. I’m pretty sure they made it up on the spot... German etc still €50/75. There will be a queue developing at least an hou...
