Re: South Ossetia visa
“Are you absolutely sure you are heading this way?” a surprised Russian customs officer asks. “This road doesn’t lead to Georgia, but to South Ossetia! I doubt they will even let you in.” Last summer, I visited South Ossetia to research a tour for my own travel agency. A trip report can be found at ...

Re: Abkhazia visa on arrival
I visited Abkhazia in October 2019. No passport stamps. I was allowed to keep my visa, though.
Visa costed 400 rub. Payment by card should be possible, but the employee told me I had to pay cash. No shorts law was not enforced.

Re: Russian Caucasus
I visited Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetia, North and South Ossetia with my family last month. We travelled with our own campervan. In Dagestan, we visited Derbent, Kubachi, Gamsutl, Gunib, Salta waterfall, Barkhan Sarykum and Sulakskiy canyon. Salta and Gamsutl were the highlights, while Mackhachkala...

Asked about the current situation during a trip to Turkmenistan this week. The border is still closed in March 2019.

Re: Passing to Abkhazia from Enguri Border
CIS nationals can only enter Abkhazia from Russia at Psou. They cannot enter from Georgia at Inguri.
What about EU residents with both a CIS passport and a EU passport? Has anyone tried?

Parking at Georgia - Abkhazia border crossing
Does anyone have experience with leaving their car (personal or rental) at the Georgia - Abkhazia border crossing? If yes, when was this and for how long did you leave your car?
Last time I opted for a parking spot in Zugdidi, but the border seems a reasonably safe place to me.

Re: Silk Road with kids: tips and advice
Hi Steven, Surprisingly few replies so far, so I hope this will be of some use. I don’t know how broad you want to interpret Silk Road in this case – I’ll stick to our experiences in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran. If you want I can add bits about Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Turkey ...

Re: World Nomad Games - Tickets for opening and closing ceremonies
For those who don't want to risk missing out on the tickets as the World Nomad Games apps still don't work: I contacted [deleted e-mail], paid a $30 service fee (for 4 tickets in total; you could gang up if you want to split the fee) and will pick up the actual tickets at their office once I arrive ...

Re: World Nomad Games - Tickets for opening and closing ceremonies
A tour agency in Bishkek offered me to stand in line at the post office for $30. That sounds ok to me, so I transferred that amount + ticket price. I sent them the documents they need (passport, photo). They told me I can pick up the tickets later in Bishkek at their office. I asked them to send me ...
