Re: Embassy report : Russian visa in Shanghai

Two travellers on German passports in November 2018. We booked fake flights Beijing - Irkutsk and Irkutsk - Moscow to have an itinerary that followed the Transsiberian train itinerary. So this is all information we gathered from three days of trying to obtain a Russian tourist visa: ⋅  The...

Re: Embassy report : Russian visa in Shanghai

We're two Germans and currently trying to obtain a Russian visa in Shanghai. We want to go by the Transsiberian Railway from Beijing to Moscow, ideally with some stops in Russia. I'm a bit flummoxed by the visa situation. For once, German seems to be a bad nationality visa-wise. We've been to the ne...

Re: Khorgos border crossing Q&A (Almaty - Urumqi)

We did the Khorgos crossing from Kazakhstan to China in the middle of October with the bus from Almaty to Ürümqi. First, the bus: ⋅  A ticket is still 16,000 Tenge. ⋅  The bus does not go every day. We asked our hostel manager to call the bus station the day beforehand and on the...

Re: Iran for vegetarians/vegans

It's not easy eating vegetarian in Iran. The only consistent option I found was to go to Fastfood restaurants, they have pizza and always a vegetarian one (sometimes called sabzi). However, this is not like any sort of pizza I've ever eaten before and requires a lot of ketchup to be digestible. Ther...

Re: Uzbekistan for vegetarians/vegans

Just to add some additional info to Cardiff Jon's excellent post: In Bukhara , Budreddin is the cheapest place to eat (still expensive) and also had some of the nicest food. With normal portion sizes, so not as minuscule as some of the other restaurants :D There's also an Italian restaurant to the E...

Re: SIM Card and internet in Turkmenistan

Tried getting a SIM card at TM Cell in Ashgabat (Russian bazaar). It's 30$ for foreigners. They told us to try and find a Turkmen person to buy the SIM card for us, since then it would only be 30 Manat. Gave up the idea then. Generally: There's no wifi in hotels or restaurants/cafes. There seems to ...

Re: Turkmenistan for vegetarians/vegans

In Ashgabat: Etazh Pub (very close to Kuwwat Hotel) offers some vegetarian options (at least a pizza). English spoken.

In Mary: Gyzylgum Cafe has at least a vegetarian shashlik, different salads, french fries and possibly pizza as well. Wide selection, so probably more possibilities.
