Re: eSIM cards for Central Asia

May 2023 esim in Kazakhstan....went with Airalo as seemed big enough to try to fix the problems and the app might work. There is usually a some discount card available online for sign up...so it was fractionally cheaper but less data. I did an esim to keep my work simcard in. My carrier doesn't cov...

Re: Bishkek Airport Sim Card

Hi, thanks for the info! Really helpful. Do you happen to know if this free sim card thing (or the shops) and currency exchange operate 24/7 in the airport? I'll be arriving in Bishkek around 5am this Saturday and would be great if I can sort this out before leaving the airport, especially the curr...

Re: Nature day to trips from Tashkent, Samarkand or Buhara?

I personally don’t think the options from Tashkent are as good as Almaty, but there are a few options I can think of: 1. Parkent - see the Heliocomplex and then continue to Sulok Village for lunch and the nature park with a waterfall (around 2km each way). The drive is quite nice with a number of vi...

Re: Uzbekistan where to buy a phone SIM card

Hello! is it possible to get a SIM cart at Tashkent airport, even if we land quite late (about 1.30 AM)? Thanks! Yes. I arrived last week on the Turkish Airlines flight that lands at 01:05. The desk in the middle of baggage reclaim was open and selling UCell Sim Cards. The price was 50,000 Som for ...

Re: Bishkek Airport Sim Card

In case anyone is curious at Bishkek Airport there is a a row of people giving out SIM cards between Immigration and Baggage reclaim. There are also shops from the phone companies once you go through customs into the arrivals hall. I went with a 2 week unlimited data package with O! For 500 som (ar...

Re: Kyrgyzstan coronavirus travel re-opening/restrictions Q&A

I went through Bishkek airport a couple of weeks ago. There was no mask wearing, no Covid checks and no immigration forms to complete. The immigration official just takes your photo, stamps your passport and you’re good to go!

Re: Dirty (corrupt) police

I’ve just got back from Kyrgyzstan and had no issues with police. Around Bishkek I noticed very few police and those I did see were uninterested in me (or anyone else for that matter). I did see two uniformed police in Osh Bazaar (again completely disinterested in me and my camera). There was a Poli...

Re: Kyrgyzstan coronavirus travel re-opening/restrictions Q&A

Most of what I find online seems to indicate that a PCR is not required if fully vaccinated (although I think the Irish embassy still says that a PCR is required). This seems to be the most “official” guidance I can find from the Kyrgyz side (from the embassy in Switzerland): https://mfa.gov.kg/en/d...
