Nakhchivan
I recently spent a day and a half in Nakhchivan. There is limited information online about visiting this autonomous republic of Azerbaijan so I thought I’d share a few pieces of information for anyone planning to visit. Border Crossing & Changing Money I crossed from Iran at Julfa with an e-visa for...

Re: Turkmenistan July/August 2018: visa, money, transport, accommodation
Day 4 Arrived around 4am at Bayramaly. Waited several hours for ticket(attendant) office to open; there were a few locals also lingering. Around 7am, made one aborted attempt for ticket lady to store our bags for us which didn’t work. At 8am day shift lady started her shift and asked again and she b...

Re: Turkmenistan July/August 2018: visa, money, transport, accommodation
Here is a an overview of my dash through Turkmenistan focussing on logistics. There were two of us travelling together and as you can see we sacrificed hotels for sleeper trains, but the itinerary is certainly doable. I know it won’t suit everyone, but wanted to share some ideas for those planning t...

Re: Turkmen manat black market exchange rates
I received 18.5 manat for $1 at the Dashoguz Farmers Market on Sept 24th. From the train station, this is one block west (across) and two blocks south (down). I walked around the market for a while seeing if anyone would approach me but attracted no interest. I then wandered towards the stores with ...

I’ll be in Armenia for the first week of November (need to be back in Tbilisi on evening of 7th Nov for a flight). Am looking for travelling buddies, maybe hire a car for a few days. Will you be around in first week of Nov and interested in doing some touring?

Re: Tashkent airport: reports and Q&A
Below is my experience of arriving at Tashkent Airport yesterday. I arrived in a flight from Bishkek (Kygrz) at 1030am on a Monday morning. All in all it was extremely efficient and zero hassle. One of the easiest arrivals I’ve had in my travels. Arrival, Immigration, Customs, Money Exchange After d...

Re: Possible to buy tickets on Uzbek Railways Website?
I tried several email addresses and a gmail account finally worked (received the email via spam). However, the online ticket system doesn’t work for me with an Australian passport. This is as previously reported by someone else in this forum (if choosing Australia as the issuing country for the docu...

Embassy Report: Iran Visa collection in Astana
If you have used Caravanistan’s partner to submit a visa application to the Iranian MFA, Visa collection in Astana is straight-forward. I did as follows yesterday (Aug 2018). I had already received the visa grant notice via email from Caravnistan’s partner. Iranian embassy is on Daraboz St which is ...
