Re: Ishkashim border crossing: open or closed?

I crossed it back into Tajikistan yesterday. No safety issues and very friendly border guards. Afghan guards even took selfies with me, and didn't mind if I took photos at the border crossing area.

Re: Altitude Sickeness in the Wakhan Corridor

I just got back from trekking to Chaqmaqtin, working on a full writeup in the next few days. Altitude sickness isn't likely to be a problem if you stick to a normal itinerary (go Khorog, Ishkeshim, Sarhad, and then trek). The first day of the trek is the high point at 4200 meters, but you descend an...

Re: Nuratau Mountains

Interesting! I hadn't even heard of these mountains before. Might have to check them out when I'm in Uzbekistan this fall.

Got any photos from your trip somewhere?

Re: Afghan visa in Islamabad

Applied two weeks ago. No LOI needed, but they will ask for a letter of permission from your embassy. Just firmly tell them that your embassy does not give these. Needed a colour copy of passport, and a single passport sized photo (bring two to be safe). You will get a visa form to fill out at the e...

Re: Embassy report: Afghanistan embassy in Ottawa

Hello, I'm a Canadian citizen and was wondering which of the following visa should I get for Afghanistan? Single Entry Visitor’s Visa – One Month or Tourist One Month Visa. Not sure what the difference is. I'd be spending a day in Afghanistan along the Wahkan corridor. Thanks! Carol I emailed them ...

Re: Pakistan High Commission Ottawa LOI Tourist Visa

Good luck!

I made a slightly more detailed write-up on applying at the Ottawa High Commission for anyone who comes across this thread in the future.
