Re: Coronavirus: when can we start traveling again?

Rick, my very personal opinion is it's useless to think and plan exactly your trip right now. Now is the time of spontaneous and flexible travellers. Because situation changes frequently. Border opened, airline starts flights, then catch the flight and go. All suddenly closed, then be ready to chang...

Re: Coronavirus: when can we start traveling again?

Steven, I don't think your prediction about "If you make it to Central Asia in 2021, you can be certain you’ll have the place to yourself" applies to Kazakhstan. Last season when the virus was in KZ most popular touristic destinations were crowded with tourists. Locals mostly, but anyway. Now restri...

Re: Language(s)

I travelled in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan. In those countries in the cities Russian language always worked. But in some small distant villages people often didn't understand Russian, especially young people (elder people still remember Russian). Then we used so called body langua...

Re: Ustyurt Plateau in late November

I can only guess. But my guess is that they want a hotel with the special view to attract certain type of clients. That's why they want to build it just next to the famous rocks. Imagine, tourists even don't have to go out of the hotel as they can see the Rocks out of their windows. And say: checked...

Re: Kyrgyzstan to open borders to all foreigners

If 72 hours is an issue you can self isolate for extra days. And can re-test afterwards. I personally don't see any problems with travelers who travel now if they take measures to prevent any infections they may have from spreading. Like don't sneeze and cough on others, don't kiss and other physica...

Re: information about flying with somonair

Hi.

Where did you buy that ticket?
On their Facebook page Somon Air said that they have stopped international flights since March. But there are fake sites that sell tickets.

Re: Detailed map of Son kol

Hi. OsmAnd application for navigation has trails, passes and yurt camps marked around Son Kol. Although it's not as detailed as you need. Names of yurt camps are not shown there. If you need a particular yurt camp will have to find out its location. Also check gps treks on wikiloc. There are quite s...

Re: Stomach health when in Kyrgystan

While trekking I ate sublimated food, special dried food for camping. You add hot water or boil it for 15 mins. Not sure if that kind of food is possible to find in Bishkek. I ordered it on-line in advance and brought it with me. In Bishkek and other local shops bought dried fruits and nuts, rice, p...
