Re: Hotan/Hetian experiences?

Pinyin counts!

The hotel at that address is the Xi Yu Hotel 西域大酒店.

It is on ctrip Chinese and there is a notation that it accepts foreigners, so you can book online.

Re: Hotan/Hetian experiences?

Offhand I can't find any Xi Ju hotel in Hetian.

Just a reminder to those reading this fine report that the intensive searches by customs are peculiar to land borders in the West, and sometimes with Laos. Elsewhere you can expect to bring in your LP without problem.

Re: From India to Belgium without planes

Remember, the Karakoram Pass closes over Winter, exact dates depending on weather conditions.

Re: PSB Registration?

You must register yourself ONLY if you are not staying in a place licensed to provide accommodation. For example, you must register yourself when staying at an Airbnb or in someone's home. Re: Best way to see Hotan, Kashgar, Kuqa...

Assuming you travel hard sleeper, trains are quite civilized once you are on board. No problem, really. The problem is, stations -- especially with the extra security checks in Xinjiang -- can be crowded and uncomfortable. But usually not too confusing, apart from the usual language problems. Buying...

Re: Indian visa in Dushanbe?

Bear in mind you'll almost certainly be required to wait a week while the Dushanbe embassy contacts the Indian embassy in your home country for "clearance." This seems to be the case whenever and wherever you apply for an Indian visa outside your home country.

Re: questions and checks at xinjiang border

Remember, they care far more about your photos when leaving Xinjiang. Safest is just to never pull your phone out on the street. Their cameras are everywhere and will surely pick you out.
