Embassy report: Uzbek visa in Rome, Italy

I wanted to share my experience with obtaining an Uzbek visa from Rome. I do not recommend the experience to anyone and until the consul is still the same person, the situation probably will not improve. If you have another option of getting the visa, it will pay off. If you are not a resident of It...

Re: Uzbekistan e-visa Q&A

Does anyone know if you need a completely empty page in your passport when applying for e-visa. Do they actually put a visa in your passport when you enter or is it enough to have just an empty spot somewhere for a stamp? My passport is almost full and I do not have empty pages anymore. I would lik...

Re: Registration for Sim card in Tajikistan

Fyi the communications ministry just announced that starting august 20th the cost of a sim-card will increase to 250 tjs...roughly 25 dollars. I bought my SIM card on August 19 and my SIM card price was included in the offer, so I paid only 39 TJS for 1GB and some minutes. Maybe I was really lucky ...

Re: Mini buses from Bishkek To Balykchy

If you travel on a budget, you can take the marshrutka 380 from just in front of the airport all the way to the Western Bus Station (Zapadniy avtovokz'al) for 40 KGS and take the first marshrutka from there. If you arrive that early in the morning, there will be plenty of marshrutka from the airport...

Re: Urgench Airport Luggage Store

I guess there is a luggage deposit at the airport, but I did not use it. The service is quite common across ex-USSR. I used the deposit service at the train station in Urgench, though, and in Bukhara, too. It works well. You just have to tell the guards at the entrance of the train station that you ...

Re: Online availability for Uzbek Afrosyob train

I had some indirect confirmations that the Afrosyob train is put for online sale only 2 weeks before the respective data. E.g. tickets for August 15-31 can be purchased only after August 1-2.
Local and international trains on the other hand are sold much more in advance.

Boat ride and open lake swimming in Issyk-Kul

While a quite touristic experience, the boat ride in Cholpon-Ata is a good way to experience the Issyk-Kul lake on budget. At the pier located within the bay of the western side of the Cholpon-Ata peninsula there are plenty of boats for a one-hour tour of the lake. They seem to depart on the hour in...

Re: Penjikent Border Crossing Reports

We crossed from Tajikistan to Uzbekistan on the Kurban Ait day, 22 August - 4 people, fluent Russian speakers. We took a whole taxi from Panjikent to the border paying 60 TJS (slightly more than the Caravanistan info, but we did not haggle). Uzbek money is available at the bazaar or at the border it...
