Re: Seeking feedback: UPDATED Summer 2019 Stans' itinerary

Ah I see. So I’m optimistic we’ll be ok for the permit, but very aware - and wary - of the muddy and generally very poor road conditions around there and points east. Therefore we’ll only go if we are confident the conditions are good enough, and ideally if we can convoy with another 4x4.

Re: Seeking feedback: UPDATED Summer 2019 Stans' itinerary

We don’t plan on visiting Sarez so didn’t consider getting the required permit, but what do you mean by ‘points west’? Which roads are you referring to?

Re: the zorokul permit, I’ve been in touch with the PECTA in Khorog who have confirmed that we can obtain permits with them on site.

Ride With Us? Dushanbe > Osh (Aug 23 - Sep 1, 2019)

Hi folks, My friend and I are will be driving through Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan from August 18 - September 8, 2019, and along the Pamir Highway (Dushanbe > Osh) from August 23 - September 1. While we plan on camping 1/3 of our nights and therefore will have a lot of gear, we should have 1-2 extra sp...

Re: Seeking feedback: UPDATED Summer 2019 Stans' itinerary

Hi folks, As we depart Canada for the region in two weeks, I want to share an update on our itinerary which we've updated quite a bit thanks to all the feedback. This represents just a skeleton of our plan, and we have prepared a much more comprehensive itinerary as well. It is also not set in stone...

Re: Seeking feedback: UPDATED Summer 2019 Stans' itinerary

Sounds like a killer trip! Some questions from a newbie: Did you just use Google maps, or did you find another source of maps? Anything that might have more extensive 4x4 roads? Also I'm super interested in what kind of vehicle you're using. Is it a hire 4x4, or are you purchasing something when yo...

Re: Seeking feedback: UPDATED Summer 2019 Stans' itinerary

Thanks a lot Steven, that's really helpful and we're seriously considering re-routing as per your + bwv's input. Ideally we would still like to visit the the Yagnob Valley, so wonder if you think it would be practical/manageable to fit in, if we were to revise our itinerary as per your recommendatio...

Re: Seeking feedback: UPDATED Summer 2019 Stans' itinerary

Hey bwv812, thanks for the response and based on what you see in the itinerary outline above, I can appreciate your comments. I failed to mention that the itinerary above is just a skeleton, and that I have a separate, meticulously detailed itinerary which considers all the elements you've suggested...

Seeking feedback: UPDATED Summer 2019 Stans' itinerary

Hi there, I'm planning a self-guided 4x4 trip through parts of Central Asia with a friend from August 18 - September 8, 2019, and further to extensive research into itineraries, maps, time frames, and sights/activities, I want to share my updated and hopefully final itinerary with the community in c...

Re: Seeking feedback: Stans' itinerary review

I think it is better to do the loop the other way. The lower parts in UZB and TAJ (dushanbe) are quite hot and even in September you could have snow on the way from Murghab to Osh. Also going from Murghab to Osh in 1 day is possible but a long drive, while from Khorog to Langar is very easy in one ...
