Re: Kyrgyzstan Trip Report
To be honest, i was just spoiled by 6 weeks in Iran early in my trip... nothing sonce has been that good! But I did enjoy lots of it - in Kyrgyzstan I had spme good walks around Arslanbob & Issy Kul, but yes, it was frustrating to be so limited. If I come back it will be on a nike so I have freedom ...

Re: Current state of kashgar - Tashkurgan road?
Fantastic reply, thanks a million for your input! I had come up through the 'stans and found them a bit of a let down after 6 weeks in Iran... enjoyed lots of it, especially the Wakhan, but nothing quite met the standard of Iran... Kashgar, for all the Chinese govt has done to it, feels alive in the...

Re: Current state of kashgar - Tashkurgan road?
I am at Pamir Hostel... along with lots of Chinese travellers! However I did meet an American yesterday who had done a tour to the lake - she said it was hell - 6 hours each way and 20 mins at the lake. It seems the road is being redone all the way to the Pakistan border and there are road works mos...

Re: Current state of kashgar - Tashkurgan road?
Brilliant info, thanks a million! I am the only non-Chinese person at my GH, only 2 of the other people speak English, but from what I can gather, they are all down from Urumqi direction, and heading back up there. I wouod far rather not spend the money on a tour and am def keen to give the quick to...

Irkeshtam Pass Crossing Report
My advice is to take a hood book and a great deal of patience... I got a minibus from Osh to Sary Tash the previous day so I could make an early start, stayed in Hotel Tatina on the right as you come into ST, just before the garage - it's signposted. negotiated down to 600 som for a bed, dinner, and...

Re: Wakhan corridor.
If you can't get through to the Afghan consulate in Khorog, you could try contacting the PECTA office in Khorog or Pamir Lodge GH there - phone numbers probably in LP guidebook- or Hanis GH in Ishkashim - all of these may be able to tell you if they have had travellers who have crossed that border r...

Kyrgyzstan Trip Report
Kyrgyzstan, May 2015, free visa on arrival for 60 days :) No exciting itinerary here, alas, just the obvious places - no public transport to the more out of the way spots, and apparently I was early in the season so didn't meet many other travellers for joining forces to split vehicle hire costs - s...

Current state of kashgar - Tashkurgan road?
Anyone bussed it from Kashgar to tashkurgan lately? I was planning on heading there and back as a side trip, before heading east. A local guide tells me the road is in a very bad way and the bus takes 10 hours minimum instead of the expected 6, and that I woupd be better doing a day tour to the lake...

Re: Tajikistan Trip Report
Hi Breakfast Buffets! I was expecting it to be easy to meet others to share the trip with, based on reading reports from lthers on blogs etc. Turned out i didn,t meet any travellers at the hostel in Dushanbe ( I was the only guest at that time) and then in Khorog I met 2 cyclists who obviously had g...
