Re: Osh: Q&A and reports

For trekking shoes and quality sandals there’s a shop at the Kelechek Bazaar that actually has quality goods. I’m pretty sure the brand name shoes was the real deal, and they stock a whole range of good stuff. My sandals broke so I visited a whole lot of stores and I couldn’t find anything close to ...

Second hand / souvenir shopping in Bishkek

I found a few really cool gems and I guess there’s many more places, so keep them coming: The flea market is a good start, it’s held each Sunday on Yunusaliev Avenue (42.8331560, 74.6217580) and the side streets. They apparently start pretty early (like 8-9?) and go on until it gets too hot at aroun...

How to get to Kyrgyz-Ata national park by yourself from Osh

I was just thinking of how lucky I am to have other people’s experiences written down so I don’t have to experience the bad parts. So... for some reason no one have written a guide about actually getting to Kyrgyz-Ata National Park by yourself. 1. Forget the name Kyrgyz-Ata, this is a small communit...

Re: Almaty-Tashkent sleeper train

Kids under 5 can sleep in their parents bed, you can go to the Almaty-2 station and sort this out. It costs like 600 tenge for a ticket for kids. But beware it’s really small beds for two, our two year old and my short wife had to sleep head to foot. So with a four year old it might be better to boo...

Re: Uzbek Railways Website Q&A

As you’ve might seen, the website only allows four people booked at the time. So if you’re booking more than four people, and you’re booking kids, apparently the system doesn’t allow to book single children... So now we gotta sort this out somehow. The train is pretty empty so maybe we’ll just try t...

Re: Swimming pool in Uzbekistan?

I believe you can pay for using the pool at Radisson Blu Tashkent . It’s a nice pool and it wasn’t very crowded this Saturday, there was a bunch of people there I haven’t seen at the hotel anyway. There’s a restaurant which is expensive but okay. My kids only want mashed potatoes so that’s just 9000...

Re: Western Union in Uzbekistan

Just discovered that MoneyGram works with credit card transfer. So I’m using that instead. You will need your proof of stay at the hotel, so don’t forget to bring it!

Re: Uzbek Railways Website Q&A

I got the registration email now to my gmail spam folder, didn't work earlier. My guess is that they've had their domain or ip blacklisted due to some unit on their network sending spam, its a common problem. Then their emails get stuck before the user's spam folder.

Re: Western Union in Uzbekistan

This might be important info if you’ve (cough) lost your visa and have used Western Union to transfer money to yourself in places like Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan: You can NOT transfer money to yourself via credit card (from Sweden anyway) in/to Uzbekistan. You can only send cash from a physical offic...

Re: Is my medication allowed in Uzbekistan? Q&A

Took the train from Almaty to Tashkent, the guard seemed ashamed of asking us to open two backpacks and that was it. Nothing more.
