Re: Karkara valley (Kegen – Tup/Kensu) border

Crossed the border from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan in the middle of May with a rental car. Two Australians (so 30 day visa free entry) and a UAZ. Very easy for both areas - Kazakhstan wanted to take our car apart, but he was very nice about it and friendly as he looked in all our bags. We had a docume...

Re: Bishkek-Tashkent train: reports and Q&A

It was. It leaves from the bus station in Tashkent at 18h every day. I went to the bus station three days before and bought a ticket, it cost 120,000 sum each. The bus was completely packed when we caught it - buying the ticket beforehand is essential. The bus itself goes through Kazakhstan (up to S...

Re: Sypatai Batyr (Chaldybar) border crossing (Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan)

We entered Kyrgyzstan on this border on April 13 as part of the overnight bus from Tashkent. The bus was full of Uzbek, Kyrgyz, and Kazakh locals - we were the only tourists (Australian). The bus arrived at the crossing at around 5.30am, and it was deserted. Leaving Kazakhstan was straight forward -...

Re: Bishkek-Tashkent train: reports and Q&A

Update: apparently there isn't one now. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier, and if they run later, but the lady (and then a curious manager) said there aren't any. I asked if there was one in May (and pointed to the month on the calendar), and they said 'none this year.' So, I don't know. We ...

Re: Tashkent to Shymkent border crossing Q&A

Crossed 12th April on the Tashkent -> Bishkek overnight bus. We arrived at the border at around 19h45 (bus left Tashkent at 18h15). There was a huge bottleneck as our bus arrived at the same time as two that were going to Almaty (and another to Shymkent that arrived about 20min after). There was a b...

Ok, great. Thanks :)
I'm heading to the Tashkent station today to try and work out whether it works in May. I'll report back if you're correct :)

Re: Bishkek-Tashkent train: reports and Q&A

Hello,
Has anyone found a schedule for this yet? We're hoping to catch it in about a fortnight, but I can't work out if it is actually going.

Thanks!!

Re: Embassy report: Iran visa in Tbilisi

The speed of bureaucracy. That's a shame. I did find when we went to do our visas, the guy said to come back the next day with the passports, payment form, etc etc. I said we could do it today, and he was like 'oh.' We went to the bank and popped back in later on the same day, and he was okay with i...
