Chinese visa in Hong Kong

Instead of trying to extend my visa in China Iwent to Hong Kong to get a new double entry. Should be easy peasy lemon squeezy? Maybe depending on the company. China Travel Service HK wants 80 usd or thereabouts... but I have to provide a full itinerary with hotel- and transport bookings. Not the bes...

Almaty - Urumqi by train: reports, Q&A

Took the train to Urumqi last week with my bike. The one leaving 00.20 Tuesday... so just after midnight Monday. Train consisted only of Chinese wagons. There was no restaurant car and they didn't let foodsellers in. Maybe I could have gotten off at some stations but didn't want to chance it. Bring ...

Bajkonur launch on the cheap

Watched Progress 52? being launched a few days ago from the highway. There are two cafes and a truckparking/hotel/restaurant close to the overpass, where we watched the night launch. About 300 meters from the bridge. Price was 5000 tenge for a double. Launch itself was just an ascending fireball wit...

On bicycles we chose to go left on the road to Zhalagash and follow the main road from there to Kyzylorda. Condition of road is good.

Re: [report] Kazakh visa in Baku.

Sent as pm, as it seems I chose the wrong button. Must be the heat or a sideeffect of vegging it in a hostel for a week... i.e. the heat... well, humidity. :-[

Holler if you didn't get it. Might make some from the port/ferry too.

Embassy report: Kazakh visa in Baku.

Came 15 mins before opening time Tues. Consular clerk showed up 2 mins later and let me in. So no waiting. Applied for double entry and was told it would be ready Thurs. I know you can probably push to get it faster, but I hate being a nuisance. Thurs I again went there 15 mins early and again I was...

Re: car rental in Aktau, kz?

Actually a train to Aktobe or a bit further down the line sounds like it would work. Anydirect trains from Aktau going towards Almaty... somewhere before Bajkonur perhaps?
