Re: Ho(s)tel between Nukus & Buchara

Re: Traveling between Russia, Kazakistan, Uzbekistan and Gyrgyzistan

international driving licences have their russian version included in the documents - both vienna (1968) and geneva (1949).
anyway, i was asked for idl only once (long time ago) - i was stopped by the police more than 50 times - and never asked at the border.

Re: Khargush-Zorkul-Shaimak possible?

jarty gumbaz to murgab - half a day. be careful not to cross the salt lake, just drive on the western side of it, even if it seems to be dry.

Re: Khargush-Zorkul-Shaimak possible?

khargush-zorkul-jarty gumbaz - yes, but you need permit for zorkul reserve. the road is very tiresome, partly gravel, partly is a track with crossing many narrow but deep streambeds with steep vertical-cut edges (cross-section ca 50x50cm - just right for a wheel to jam). jarty gumbaz-shaimak - not, ...

Re: Points for gasoline across Pamir road

"good" gasoline? there is not much choise. the only sure place for gasoline between dushanbe and gulcha is khorog. kala i-khumb, ishkashim, murgab, sary tash - sometimes yes, sometimes not. plus a few small stations (filling from barrels or canisters) on the way - but only in western pamir...

Re: Men wearing shorts in Uzbekistan

generally in asia: wearing trousers/shorts is a status mark - short means poor and despised, long means rich and respected (similarly slim and fat). boys wear shorts, men wear trousers. even if you are a tourist, a welcome guest, asian people keep it in the subconscious, unwittingly in their mind. b...
