Re: Travel Report: Turkmenistan - Uzbekistan - Tajikistan - Kyrgyzstan - Kazakhstan

Nice report, I read it entirely 😁 It reminds me a lot of good souvenirs. I'm really glad to know there is a train going from Khiva to Bukhara. Some years ago I hit this road through the desert in a over packed and fucking hot mini van, with the privilege of spending one night in some sort of restaur...

Re: Coronavirus: when can we start traveling again?

I have the project to cycle the Pamir starting mid-august in Dushanbe. Untill a few weeks ago I was still confident I can make it. Now I'm seriously doubting... I do hope I'm too pessimistic, but to me summer is too soon to travel again.

Best case : they send you back (unlikely to happen)
Common case : they take you to police station and charge you for illegal entry in Azerbaijan

Re: borders during Mujahideen Victory Day.

I've been on the river many times on the Tajik and I'm surprised by how quickly the border guards appear out of nowhere in the middle of nowhere. I confirm : you think you're alone and suddenly border guards show up. In this part of the world don't do such stupid things as crossing borders illegally.

Re: Just back from a month in the Wakhan/Little Pamir

For those interested in the Pamir (I guess everyone here is) who read french (I've surely lost all of you), I've found a very interesting book : "la dernière caravane" (the last caravan), written by Roland and Sabrina Michaud. It's about their life in Afghanistan and travels in the Pamir in the late...

Re: Travel safety in Iraqi Kurdistan?

Not sure what the border region to Turkey and the turkish side is going to develop in the next 2,3 weeks: any ideas? Anybody around there now? Go for it or better take a detour? I'm not there and I've never been, but my first thoughts tell me it's a very long and tough border crossing on turkish si...

Re: Hotan/Hetian experiences?

No it's not. XiJu was smaller and not impressive at all (but confortable). It had no english inscription and it didn't appear on Trip or Booking.
I'll try to find out something this week-end.

Re: Hotan/Hetian experiences?

Hi Wellskier Sorry, I don't remember more than the name : XiJu. It's on a large avenue, 10mn walk northwest of main square (the one with Mao statue). Not sure it will help, BUT I remember the name of a second place that accept foreigners in Hotan : Muztag Hotel. Try to get more informations at your ...
