Re: Adjusting to the altitude before Song Kol trek

Hi. Keep in mind that it's dry continental climate here. And usually people adjust to higher altitudes easier in dry climates. I don't know how reliable info I read but according to it altitude sickness can begin at about 1500 m for humid climate and 2500 - 3000 m for dry climate. Kochkor is much b...

Re: Adjusting to the altitude before Song Kol trek

Thanks for the insight. I'm coming from NYC. I'm arriving in Bishkek on Friday evening, spending Saturday there, and heading to Kochkor. From Kochkor, I would trek 3-4 days to Song Kol. I'm not as concerned about the trekking aspect since the altitude change will be more gradual. It's moreso the tra...

Adjusting to the altitude before Song Kol trek

I'll be arriving in Kyrgyzstan from a sea-level North American city on a Friday. How long is recommended to adjust to the altitude before starting a trek to Song Kol via Kochkor? I was thinking of starting on Sunday or Monday. I'm a healthy male in my mid-20s if that matters. Is that too soon?

Re: trip report: KG, UZ & KZ

If you have a decent sleeping bag for the multi-night trek, then you shouldn't need to worry about clothing too much. Maybe bring a light jacket. During the day its not cold, plus you'll be moving which will warm you up. Everywhere that you've listed in Uzbekistan will likely still be quite hot. I ...

Re: trip report: KG, UZ & KZ

Thanks for this! I'd love your advice on packing for these 2 very different climates. I'm planning a similar trip for Aug 16 - Sep 2. I'm starting in Kyrgyzstan, with plans to do hiking, a multi-night trek to Song Kol, and just generally trying to do homestays in jailoos. Then, I'm planning to visit...

Re: To gear or not to gear?

1: why is renting not an option to Song Kul? Just leave your gear at the yurt and the tour company will pick it up later or have it brought down in a taxi. I wouldn't bother bringing your gear. 2: can definitely be arranged with a tour company. Not sure that you will just find a taxi driver waiting...

Re: Uzbekistan e-visa Q&A

I'm having issues with payment. I click the payment step on the application, and it took me to another page. I accepted Terms & Conditions, which took me to another page. This page crashed, so I never even had the opportunity to put in my credit card info. Now when I go back to my application it say...
