Re: Change kyrgyz soms in Tajikistan ?

We found Murghab to be useful to change money for Chinese Yuan (we had Yuan that we could not change in Kyrgyzstan), but should also be good for kyrgyz Som, as people of this region often do their shopping in Osh (in fact even shop owners from Alichur did this). In Khorog I would try it at the bazar.

Re: Offroad track to mountains - our map/suggestions?

The road to the west of Inylcheck doesn't exist (or not any longer) and the road to the east of Inylcheck isn't going as far as depicted (only to Khan Tengri Camp, in google earth this is the name, when we were there in 2004 there was a different name - ak dshailo). You usually need a border permit ...

Re: Permit Pamir national park

There exists a national park, which is also delimited on the Pamirs map of Markus Hauser. I've read reports, that people got problems around Yashilkul, when they had no permit. We could once buy a permit in Murghab (but you should also be able to get in Khorog), it is on a day by day base. But we wer...

Re: Cycling from Dushanbe to Bishek

5 weeks seems reasonable to me (but it depends on the cyclist) and from Osh you have no problem finding a transport. We then took a "Busnik" from Bishkek to Osh, kind of a van that is transporting goods, but also passangers (therefore no problem with a bike), but should start outside Osh. ...

Re: Dushanbe To Khorog Travel Advise

It depends on whether you want to do some trekking or just walk a bit. I would go on the first day to Iskander Kul (and have a stop in Varzob gorge). At Iskander Kul is a Turbaza, where you could stay the night. For trekking I would take the other day another transfer out from Iskander Kul and let y...

Re: Dushanbe To Khorog Travel Advise

Why not going to the Fan Mountains and keeping the Pamir for a trip with more time.

Re: pamir highway and small side trip to Afganistan if possible

Hi Zorkul was great, we did it on a 3 weeks cycle loop through the Pamir, including Bartang valley http://bike-pamir.blogspot.ch/2010/10/der-afghanischen-grenze-entlang-durch.html The Wakhan side trip was 3 weeks, we cycled to Sarhad and trekked to the Little Pamir. http://bike-asia.blogspot.ch/2013...

Re: $US dispensing ATMs Naryn?

If things have not changed, you should also get $ in Tajikistan. At least in former trips I was able to extract some at the airport in Dushanbe and in 2013 we also got tons of them in Khorog (ATM and bank, the bank was cheaper for larger amounts).

Re: pamir highway and small side trip to Afganistan if possible

I don't think Khorog will be concerned, but Ishkashim may be different (http://asiacruisenews.com/news/Tajikistan:-Emergency-situation-in-Ishkashim-District-bordering-with-Afghanistan ). If the way over the tajik Wakhan is closed one can also take the Roshtkhala road (we did it some years ago with a...
