Re: Uzbek sum exchange rates

Might seem like a stupid question but..........

Are there any ATM's in the bigger cities?

Having said that the current OANDA Bank Exch Rate $1 USD = 4169 Som.
So maybe it is better to shop around!

Currently NO sale of Train Tickets for travel in Uzbekistan?

Can anyone advise me if you currently cannot buy Train Tickets for journeys in Uzbekistan? I am being told by the travel agent who is supposed to be getting our train tickets that there are 'Rail Operator' problems and so no tickets are being sold even though the journeys are all now inside the 30 d...

Re: Rail-gravel.kz VISA payment not working

My Visa card had no problems 3 days ago with tickets.kz

BUT if you are buying more than one ticket then you will have to purchase them as separate transactions as their system for buying 2 or more is not working!

Re: Kazakhstan: info on buying train tickets online

Hi Folks Having just purchased some Kazakhstan Rail Tickets online from http://www.tickets.kz For anyone wishing to buy 2 tickets at the same time as a joint purchase, while you can 'select the seats' after choosing the train you wish to travel on, then enter all the details of Name, ID document, Co...

Re: Border Crossing by Train: Kazakhstan into Uzbekistan. Advice

Hi Steven, I would also like to know but it seems to be rather difficult to identify the type of train as there are no 'indicators' or Icons alongside to let you establish whether it is fast or slow: I have been looking on https//tickets.kz for tickets from Alma Ata-2 to Chimkent and can only guess ...

Re: Border Crossing by Train: Kazakhstan into Uzbekistan. Advice

Well I am guessing that we might just be on a Fast Train as the journey from Chimkent to Tashkent takes just over 5 hours, while the train number (001X) even on the Russian Train Ticket website gives no indication of what type it is, be it Fast or Slow.

Re: Border Crossing by Train: Kazakhstan into Uzbekistan. Advice

Hello Steven, Thanks for your reply. In response to one part of your reply: "This is I think how it happens all over the world, no?" Having been on a few 'Cross Border' train journeys the short answer is 'No' If it was just a case of checking your passport then why did it take 1 forum memb...

Border Crossing by Train: Kazakhstan into Uzbekistan. Advice

Hello, We are travelling by Train from Chimkent, Kazakhstan to Tashkent, Uzbekistan later this year and I wondered if anyone has traveled by this route and what happens when you reach the border crossing point on the Train? Any help on the 'process' involved in crossing the border would be welcome. ...

Re: Almaty - Charyn Canyon - Karakol

Hi, from the day trip we took last year with a tour company on a very old Ex German Long Distance Coach that the driver locked off the Loo so it could not be used, while the drive was 3 hours each way! From memory the Canyon is at the end of a road that didn't go any further than the entrance gate u...

Re: Hong Kong to Guangzhou by FERRY!

Hello cheriska, While I am very grateful for your help and information which is brilliant! I did find out that to get to our final destination in Guangzhou we will need an additional 2 to 3 hours because of the distance from the China Border Entry Point! As the first 'alternative' I then looked at t...
