Embassy report: Afghanistan in Berlin

Today I received my 3 months' tourist visa from the Afghan embassy in Berlin. In general, it is a quite chaotic embassy. They have terrible reviews on Google. From the moment they open their doors, it is crowded with Afghans with lots of paperwork and embassy employees seemingly in a state of eterna...

Re: Pamir Highway checkpoints

The only checkpoint where I had to exit the car was shortly before entering Khorog oblast. The officer said that one of the regions of Gorno-Badakhshan was not mentioned on the permission stamp, so that I could not pass here and should go all the way around through the Wakhan valley. Or pay a fine o...

Re: Trip KAZ > KYR > KAZ > KYR > TAJ > KYR

Sorry, I read the replies only now. Almaty : I rented a bicycle with lock in a shop called Экстремал. They have several shops around the city. I was very straight-forward and cost me about 5€ for half a day. I doubt whether they will speak English. Very good experience, even though you will have to ...

Re: Train times in Tajikistan

When I was in Kulob in October, they had just inaugurated a new train station. A daily train now goes between Kulob and Dushanbe, passing through Qurgonteppa. It takes about 8 hours compared to 2-2,5 hours by shared taxis directly from Kulob to Dushanbe, so I would only recommend it if you want to p...

Re: Almaty Kegen Karakol border crossing

Since almost no one uses this border, finding transportation might be hard. I guess you will be able to find a taxi in Kegen, but don't expect to be able to share it with anyone else. I came from Karakol in September and had to negotiate quite a lot. If you speak neither Russian nor local languages,...

Re: Khorog to Dushanbe

The road between Khorog and Kalaikhum is really bad and especially the last part takes a lot of time.. Driving there by yourself takes quite some courage. From Kalaikhum to Kulob it is better. The latter is a nice city to spend 1-2 days. From Kulob to Dushanbe the road is good. In shared taxi it too...

Re: How long detour is acceptable on a transit visa?

Seriously? They book a flight from Europe (or wherever) and exit to Uzbekistan (or Iran or Afghanistan..) and the Turkmens accept this as transiting? I never read of anyone having done this, I just heard of other people saying this is not transiting, which made sense to me. For me transiting is goin...

Re: How long detour is acceptable on a transit visa?

If you fly into Ashgabat, you are not transitting and as such not qualifying for a transit visa. You will have to go by land. If you book domestic flights, that should be up to you. No need to tell them about that when applying. I will hopefully be able to apply for the transit visa in Berlin by the...
