Re: Uzbekistan e-visa Q&A

IIRC immediately after paying I got something like 'payment received' in Russian, then an hour or so later it changed to 'sent for processing.' So those of you with 'application activated' may want to call that phone number on the website it sounds like a problem for you. I'm not sure why mine are i...

Re: Uzbekistan e-visa Q&A

Have you all checked the status of your applications? Take the application code you were sent and you can check on the website. Mine, after submitting payment, says 'Sent for processing' in Russian. Some of you with payment errors (despite being debited) I wonder if your application still went throu...

Re: Buying Bradt guide in Dushanbe

It refers you to trekking companies rather than provide details on how to access treks. I'm not expecting detailed topographical maps, the book doesn't even tell you how to get to Artuch! A village it refers to frequently in describing hiking in the Fann Mountains, devoting a special section to the ...

Re: Buying Bradt guide in Dushanbe

I agree it's not a very good book, it was very disappointing as it was only my second Brandt guide and they did a really great job for Kazakhstan (at least the parts I used, they had a lot more info than other guides).

Re: Charyn Canyon loop itinerary

Richard I haven't been yet but I believe they are roughly east/north of the start of this trail. You can click "Nearby Maps" on the page to find some routes in that area.

Re: Uzbekistan e-visa Q&A

I tried to do the e-visa and it wanted $20 for an American, but then there was an error in payment. Yes I know I didn't listen that it will be available July 15 and that is probably why it didn't work. This website is helpful for cropping passport photos (the evisa system accepted a passport photo f...

Charyn Canyon loop itinerary

Thoughts on this loop for 3-4 days in Charyn Canyon? I have all required trekking supplies First: get to the turn off for Charyn Canyon and hitch or walk the rest of the way. Alternatively, pay 6000 tenge to join a day tour from Almaty then have them leave you there. (e.g. https://happy-travel.kz) S...

Re: Belarus visa in Almaty?

I called the Astana embassy and it looks like the Almaty branch office is closed. Have to apply in person, process takes 5 days and costs 60 euro. 120 euro to expedite 1-3 days.

Belarus visa in Almaty?

I see two different addresses and phone numbers for the embassy branch office when Googling. The email address provided by the Belarus MFA doesn't work. Perhaps their phone number is +7 727 272 7369 but I didn't get an answer yesterday. Anyone know anything about this? Or know a knowledgeable local ...
