Re: Belarus Visa Free June 10 to July 10 in 2019

That's interesting, I was woken up on the Minsk - Saint Petersburg train this morning by a few Russian border guards, who checked my passport and ticket. As they went directly to me, I assume the provodniki told them so. BTW, the provodniki on this train didn't know that the ticket allows visa-free ...

Re: Going from Georgia to Turkey via Ferry in Black Sea

AFAIK there is no such ferry, as going overland is easier and cheaper for most people, rendering a ferry unprofitable. You could hack one by going via Odessa, but that would be expensive and lengthy.

Re: Belarus Visa Free June 10 to July 10 in 2019

Taking the train from Kiev to Minsk was a breeze, the only ones who didn't know about the visa-free thing were the Ukrainian border guards, whom I had to convince that the Belarussians wouldn't send me back without a visa. Thumbs up!

Do you have a source for that? I could not find any confirmation of this on the internet.

Re: Abkhazia visa on arrival

Thanks a lot for the report! As that's the second report in relatively short time I read about passport stamping in Ingur - could you post a photo of the stamps? That's something new and I'm interested if they are standard passport stamps like most countries have or say something special. Thanks! BT...

Re: Tashkent - Almaty train canceled

But last two days people complained that their trains from Shymkent to Almaty were delayed for many hours. I guess authorities were just too worried about the growing fire. I'd simply assume that the trains were scheduled to come from somewhere behind Shimkent and therefore blocked by the fire in A...

Re: Tashkent - Almaty train canceled

I totally agree with Julia, cancelling trains due to hot weather simply doesn't happen in Central Asia or anywhere else in the former Soviet Union. As I have no information about the extent of damage to railway infrastructure in Arys (the information given by KTŽ hasn't got any substance), I cannot ...

Re: Dogs

You'll have a hard time in Iran, dogs are considered unclean by the fundamentalists - who control the government - e.g. walking a dog has recently been banned in Teheran, although some Iranians violate it and usually get away with it, you shouldn't try as a foreigner. They also talked about banning ...

Re: Bishkek-Tashkent train: reports and Q&A

If leaving from Tashkent, it might be possible with Uzbek Railways, you'll have to exchange a receipt for a ticket at the station. If leaving from Bishkek, no, except if picking up a ticket physically in Russia(!) is an option, in this case you can book at pass.rzd.ru. Also, note that you can book t...
