Re: Travelling in Central Asia in a campervan

3000 meters is nice but in Tajikistan there is the pass of 4700 meter, which is quite different. And next to that, cold starting on 3500 meter or so. But if your engine is running/starting fine and doesn't smoke to much, I wouldn't worry about it. Importing car parts, that is hard to say, I think so...

Re: Travelling in Central Asia in a campervan

1) The T4 transporter is not common at all. In the beginning of your route you will see them, but that thins out. There are a few in central Asia and from Iran onwards to Pakistan and India, you can forget about it. So in Central Asia, depending on the country, you might get some spares, but don't e...

Re: Saudi Arabia tourist visa

Re: Mongolia with own car (deposit needed ?)

Re: Off the beaten path eateries

Well, I think Central Asia in general is a good test scenario for your iron stomach.

We were not so impressed with what we saw, and we did like the food and atmosphere from the good restaurants, which is usually cheap too.

Re: Mongolia in 10 days... Is it worth?

I would book a Gobi tour, which is a week I think or at least 5 days. And then you can perhaps have an additional trip to Erdene Zuu monastary, perhaps combined with something in Orkhon valley or some other natural sight in the vicinity. Or a separate trip to the Ghengis Khan statue. So Gobi trip + ...

Gasoline is easier to find. Also (definitely) in Uzbekistan.
But both types of fuel can be of poor quality.

Re: VPNs in Xinjiang

Why not already get your Tajikistan e-visa? To be on the safe side. Once Chinese customs touch your phone I would consider it as "lost". Yes you can still use it, but there is probably some sort of spyware installed, and your VPNs might be gone. So I would, maybe even before but at least a...
