Re: Showering on roadtrip in Kazakhstan?

In the cities there are usually soviet era public bathhouses (banja) which you can use.
And sometimes fresh water lakes if you know quality is okay.

Re: Car servicing in Uzbekistan OR Kyrgyzstan

Sary Tash is quite small. I would advise one of the big cities of Uzbekistan. Most of their cars are Deawoo but if you will do oil change and so on it should be okay I think. If you need parts better go to big city in Kyrgystan. In the app iOverlander people put in garages/workshops that they visited.

Re: Buying a camper van in China

I think it is much more practical and possibly even cheaper in the end, to buy a car in NZ, ship that car from NZ to Vladivostok, Russia. Yes, that will be costly, but from there on you are free to go, and you don't need a Carnet du Passage for Russia, Mongolia, Central Asia. Going through Iran, Pak...

Re: Driving by yourself to Aral Sea

I met two guys in a Landcruiser 80 and they went to the shore from Moynaq. They said it was quite a hard ride. By there description, you really need a 4x4. And I would suggest something along the lines of a Landcruiser, not a 4wd suv. There is some risk in getting flat tires or breakdowns on these r...

Re: Charyn Canyon loop itinerary

We went there last year with our own 4x4. We went also to the other canyons. Simply said, the other canyons are on the other side (East side) of the river. From charyn canyon, you go back to main road A351, take east direction, go accross the river and at some point turn left. There are many tracks....

Re: HELP: Pakistan Visa: How long is it valid?!?

This is no good. You just got a standard visa with standard 3 months validity from the day the visa was given.

Re: help with itinerary..naryn to issyk kul via arabel pass

Alternatively, you could also go west into direction Ak-tal, and go North from there up to Song-Kul. From Song kul, you have two choices to go East towards Kochkor and Issyk Kul. There are two mountain passes which are both beautiful. We did this route, and we really liked it. But maybe you are alre...

No I don't know any other options. Yes Vladivostok is not the cheapest one.

I guess you could still go to South Korea and Japan without the car, using the ferry. Because you have to wait for car to arrive in North America.

In Vladivostok most people use: http://links-ltd.com/

I used them too, but took DBS Ferry to Japan (which is also a nice idea, unless you have a German car or other country that was not in 1949 car convention). From Japan there are Roll on Roll off lines to a lot of places.

Re: Tajikistan-Afghan border, Pamir Highway

I liked the Northern route over Obigarm and Tavildara a lot. Well it was a shi*tty road, but beautiful scenery. The rest along the border road is fine, I don't remember it as very busy. You can sometimes wave at Afghani people. From Khorog you can keep following the road along the border southwards,...
