Re: Flight Dushanbe Tashkent
Very pricey though ($250 from memory). We found that the cheapest option was taxi to Khujand ($25) then fly to Dushanbe on Somon Airlines ($35/each). Alternatively you can share taxi all the way there in around 6-7hrs for $40 and the drive is really beautiful. It involves private taxi to Oibek borde...

Re: Imigration card scam...
We entered at Kyzylart and b/c of this info, insisted on that card. They said they no longer exist, they don't have any and when I suggested they confirm in writing, we got a stamped peace of paper saying they have no immigration cards ... all friendly. Confirmed with several people, including tour...

Somon Air Q&A
Just heads up based on our experiences regarding Somon Airlines. Contact the airline 24hrs prior to departure to confirm that the flight is in fact departing. We arrived at Khujand airport ready to board our flight to Dushanbe to find it completely dead and be told by a lonely information counter cl...

Re: Pamir road and the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan
Hi everyone, First post here, as I am planning to go on the Pamir road from September 7 (flight from Dushanbe to Khorog) to September 15 (Osh). Besides inquiring whether this time frame is realistic, I am a little concerned about the rather alarmous security updates I have read here and there, rega...

Re: Shavat-Dashoguz border crossing report
The taxi drivers on the Uzbek side surprised me though, they wouldn't take us to Khiva for anything less than 30$, which was a total rip-off. We paid USD20 for Shavat --> Urgench (to buy train ticket) --> Khiva. The driver helped to organise the train ticket also (although he did give us a sort of ...

WARNING: Carefully check Your Turkmen Letter of Invitation's
I thought that I would post this in here just a head's up to everyone out there applying for Turkmen visas and specifically transit visas. We encountered a problem that nearly derailed our entire Central Asian adventure when trying to board our flights to Ashgabat about a month ago. After spending m...

Re: Dushanbe to Khujand
Take a shared taxi. A good driver will do it in 4-5hrs and it's a beautiful drive and will set you back $10-15. You can fly it on Somon Airlines but beware they can cancel flights at the last minute. We showed up to take our flight only to find the airport empty and a guy at the info counter saying ...

Re: Tajik somoni black market rates
No problem in Dushanbe getting money from ATMs, Kazkom seems to be a safe bet - and you can get both Somoni or USD at their machines (up to $500 per transaction). Hi olmo thanks for this. Do you know if you remove usd from the ATM if they convert your banking currency (usd in my case) into somoni a...
